Chapter

What’s wrong? Why are you spacing out?”

Dylan walked out of the bathroom, toweling his hair dry as he looked at me curiously

I snapped back to reality

Then I looked up at Dylan

He only had a towel wrapped around his waist, broad shoulders tapering to a narrow waist, perfectly defined abs

Dylan had always kept himself in incredible shape

People used to envy me for it: Just look at him! As long as he’s not committing murder, what could you possibly not forgive? Especially when he’s so devoted to you!”

I’d always thought Dylan was devoted to me too

But it turned out that was just what I thought

Oh, someone called you earlier. Didn’t say a word and just hung up. You might want to check it out.”

Probably just a spam call. Don’t worry about it.”

Dylan’s expression stayed perfectly natural as he took his phone

He tossed the towel into the laundry basket and grabbed his cigarettes from the table

I’m gonna step out on the balcony for a smoke.”

Since I hated the smell, Dylan always smoked on the balcony

So, he wasn’t really going out there to smoke

Just a few minutes later, Dylan came back in

He started getting dressed while talking to me

Babe, I gotta head out. Something urgent came up. Don’t wait up for me tonight.”

What happened?”

Sean’s having issues with his equipment. Don’t know if it’s just his luck, but everything was working

fine during testing, then the moment it gets to him it’s either glitching or crashing. I need to go check

it out. If it runs too late I’ll just crash there instead of coming home.”

Is Chris going with you?”

Yeah!”

So convincing

Facts, evidence, even a witness

I nodded

Drive safe.”

Dylan left in a hurry

Then I stared at our wedding photo on the wall for a long time

I just couldn’t understand

Why

Why would Dylan cheat

And that girl

Who was she

Her face, her financial dealings with Dylan, those social media posts…

One by one they flashed through my mind

Suddenly, I caught onto something

[ frantically grabbed my phone

I’d seen this girl before

It was about six months ago

Dylan had been taken to the police station for getting into a fight

I went to bail him out

He was okay physically, just a scrape on his cheekbone

But he was in a terrible stateeyes full of rage, radiating violence

Seriously, I hadn’t seen Dylan like that since his teenage years

He’d beaten the other guy to a pulp, clearly going for blood

The guy was demanding apologies and compensation

Dylan just scoffed coldly

If I hadn’t held him back, he would’ve gone at him again

After everything was sorted out, I led him away

A girl in work clothes rushed up to us

She thanked Dylan profusely: Sir, if I hadn’t run into you today, I don’t know what would’ve happened. Really, thank you so much!”

I was stunned and looked at Dylan

He looked completely annoyed

I’d suggest you find a different job.”

The girl’s face fell

If I had any other choice, I wouldn’t”

But Dylan looked even more irritated and cut her off harshly

Not my problem. Do whatever you want!”

Melody had come with me that day

As Dylan brushed the girl off and strode away, she grabbed my arm: Don’t you think that girl looks like you? At least three or four points similar?”

Back then, I just laughed it off, thinking she was reading too much into it

But I couldn’t help glancing back at the girl a couple more times

The memory overlapped with the photo in front of me

It was her
