Chapter 1
3 AM
I was awakened by the vibration of my phone.
The girl living upstairs had uploaded another private photo to Facebook Groups, Her semi–transparent lingerie barely concealed her alluring curves. Her slender wrists were bound together with a necktie in a suggestive pose.
I was about to exit the page, embarrassed to look further, when something made my brain buzz with alarm. The deep blue Hermès tie binding her wrists was identical to the one I had tied around my husband’s neck this morning,
The photo was quickly deleted.
Sleep abandoned me completely.
Outside, thunder roared as rain hammered against the windows.
Suddenly, soft moans drifted down from the ceiling.
“Slower… ahh…”
Faint but unmistakable–pleasure mingled with pain.
She seemed to have been carried to the bathroom. Despite its unique structure, even with the shower running, I could still hear the rhythmic slapping of flesh against flesh. A man thrusting against her rapidly.
Soon, the girl released a series of broken cries.
just listening made my ears burn.
Hmm… baby… don’t squeeze…”
That magnetic, deep “baby” exploded in my ears.
My heart pounded.

I opened David’s chat window.
He had sent three messages two hours ago:
[Exhausted from overtime. Missing you.]
[Asleep already?]
[Goodnight.]
I shouldn’t have doubted him, but that familiar deep blue tie and the sounds of passion from upstairs wouldn’t leave my mind.
I called him.
Surprisingly, he answered immediately.
“Claire?”
His deep, magnetic voice sent a tingle through me.
“I… the thunder woke me. Just wanted to call you.”
“Let’s stay on the line then.”
“You sleep, I’ll work.”
His end was completely quiet. I relaxed.
Not wanting to disturb his work, I reminded him to take care of himself and hung up.
Almost immediately, the girl upstairs cried out more intensely.
My heart raced again.
Early the next morning, I walked into the kitchen and unexpectedly found David, who should have been staying at the office.
I froze:
“Why are you home?”

He leaned casually against the counter:
“Worried about you driving alone, so I came back.”
“Thought I’d make you some pancakes too.”
I hugged him from behind, and David naturally turned to kiss me.
My body tensed.
As David turned his head, I glimpsed a deep red mark on his neck.
My mind wandered during his deep kiss. Soon enough, he noticed something was off.
“Baby, did you not sleep well last night?”
His concerned gaze fell on my face.
I answered instinctively: “The girl upstairs was being fucked all night long. She was so loud.”
David’s gaze remained steady. He even squeezed my bottom.
“Tonight when I fuck you, you can scream as much as you want.”
I pressed further, “Did you know she uploaded a private photo to Facebook Groups last night?”
“You better not imitate girls like that.”
He released me and turned back to flip the pancakes.
Morning sunlight streamed through the window, highlighting the gentle smile at the corner of his
lips.
I sighed with relief, dismissing my wild thoughts.
While waiting for the elevator, I noticed the dark circles under his eyes and felt a twinge of guilt:
“My leg has healed completely. I can drive myself. Next time, just rest at the office after overtime
instead of making the trip back for me.”
The elevator descended from above, stopping at our floor.

David turned and quickly kissed my earlobe:
“I know, but I just wanted to go to work with you.”
My ears burned.
It felt like we were eighteen again.
On the way to school, he would always pretend to tie his shoelaces in front of my house, feigning
coincidence.
When I called him out, he blushed immediately and whispered:
“I just wanted to walk you to school.”
David guided me into the elevator, where we happened to meet the girl from upstairs.
She wore an oversized hoodie and fuzzy socks, quietly scrolling through her phone.
She looked nothing like the provocative woman from last night’s photo.
When we reached the ground floor, she walked past us.
As she brushed by, something caught my eye with a flash.
I looked closer, curious. The girl had a beautiful silver hair clip adorning her golden hair.
When we arrived at my office building, David leaned in to kiss me before I got out.
I closed my eyes, my hand resting against the tie on his chest.
In my daze, something flickered through my mind.
Suddenly, everything became crystal clear.
It wasn’t a hair clip.
What I’d seen in the girl’s hair wasn’t a clip at all–it was David’s silver tie bar that had gone missing months ago.
