Lawyer’s Letter 6

Chapter

Chase’s fingers trembled as he took the report

The medical results were clear at a glance. He felt like someone was strangling him, making it impossible to breathe

Ruby came to see him, finding him utterly wasted and disheveled

Chase, don’t be like this. It breaks my heart.”

Ruby’s eyes were red, but Chase seemed distant, not hearing a word

He reached out to caress her cheek, mumbling incoherently

Miathe blood in youit’s Mia’s, isn’t it?”

His expression terrified Ruby. I’m Ruby, remember? What’s wrong with you?”

His hand slipped under her dress, feeling a scar on her abdomen

Ruby felt a strange uneasiness and took a step back

Chase suddenly grabbed her slender wrist, pulling her against him

Ruby’s face flushed, thinking Chase was about to kiss her. She closed her eyes

But the next moment brought excruciating pain

Ahhhhelp me!”

Ruby screamed and struggled, but at barely a hundred pounds, she was like a baby bird against Chase’s 160pound

frame

Pinned down by Chase, the dress around her abdomen turned crimson with blood

Chase had plunged a knife into her stomach and was digging for her right kidney like a man possessed

That’s Mia’s kidney. You shouldn’t have lied to me. Does it hurt? Mia felt even more pain on that operating table”

He muttered, his movements growing increasingly violent

Ruby’s face contorted in agony, her entire body trembling and convulsing

The pain of having a kidney carved out while conscious was enough to make anyone black out from shock

When the assistant pushed open the door, the stench of antiseptic mixed with the metallic smell of blood hit him like

a wall

A floor lamp lay toppled on the Persian rug, with dark red trails of blood winding through broken glass shards

Ruby was curled up in front of the leather sofa, blood seeping through her fingers and blooming in irregular patterns on her creamcolored silk dress

Miss Winters!” The assistant dropped his folder and tore off a piece of fabric to press against the gushing wound

Save me!Ruby’s nails dug deep into his wrist, her voice trembling with the fear of imminent death

Chase knelt three steps away on the carpet, holding the bloody pendant in his palm, with bloodstained strands of hair tangled between his fingers

He rose like a demon from hell, his right hand clutching a small, crimson kidney with long, thin blood vessels still dripping

He let it slip into a glass jar filled with water

Looking closer, the assistant realized the jar on the coffee table contained formaldehyde. The liquid was stained red, with tiny fibers floating on the surface

But Chase was still approaching Ruby with the knife, his eyes radiating icy coldness

Mr. Vincent! Get a grip!”

The assistant shielded Ruby’s head, his back pressed against the cold floortoceiling window. Don’t you remember? You personally signed the kidney transplant consent form! Miss Parker’s kidney was already transplanted into Miss Winters!”

I changed my mind!Chase’s pupils constricted violently as he grabbed a crystal ashtray from the table. She doesn’t deserve it! Mia came to me in my dreams. She blames me. I need to give it back to her. I failed her!”

The ashtray flew past Ruby’s cheek, cutting her ear before smashing into a display shelf. A blue porcelain vase shattered instantly

Ruby let out a piercing scream as warm blood dripped into her eyelashes, blurring her vision

Pleasesave me!She clutched the assistant’s sleeve

As Chase lunged again, the assistant finally made his decision

He grabbed a jade figurine from the cornera translucent mythical beast that glowed eerily green in the lamplight

The ornament hit the back of Chase’s head with a dull thud. His body went limp like a puppet with cut strings. The paperweight slipped from his fingers, leaving a long bloody trail on the carpet

I’m sorry, Mr. Vincent! I can’t let you commit murder!”
