Chapter 2
The baby’s cries were nonstop, his face turning bright red from crying. I locked eyes with him for three seconds, but he showed no sign of stopping.
If I didn’t do something, something might happen to such a tiny child.
Flustered, I fumbled to undo the baby’s clothes, trying to figure out how to change the diaper.
At that moment, voices came from outside the door. It was Olive and Edward,
“Edward, you’re being so harsh to Eliza, you might end up without a wife. You’ve got to treat your wife well.”
Edward sneered, “She’s had a crush on me for years, chased after me for a long time before! agreed to be with her. If I say a kind word and beckon her with my finger, she’d come running right back.”
The next moment, the door slammed loudly with a bang.
Olive gasped softly, “Edward, don’t be like this, Eliza might hear you. She’s just trouble. You’re better.”
“But you still have to marry her. Edward, then what exactly am I?”
If he loved Olive so much, why did he stay with her for so many years?
Edward sighed, “It’s to protect you. If Mom and Dad knew about our relationship, they’d definitely kick you out…”
So that’s how it was. There was never any real love that moved her. It was all a lie. He never loved her.
“Come on, since the baby isn’t here, let me have a good look at you.”
The sultry sounds continued for a full half–minute, each one louder than the last.
I stood behind the door, listening to the suggestive voices, my heart aching so badly I could barely breathe.
Suddenly, I flung the door open. The two behind it were clearly caught off guard by my sudden appearance, visibly stunned.
The sight of them made me sick to my stomach.
I just wanted to get away quickly. “Edward, give me the key to the basement.”
Edward frowned, “The key isn’t on me. It’s in the room. I’ll go get it for you, wait a moment.”
He turned and went into the room to fetch the key, leaving only me and Olive.
“Eliza, I can’t let you marry into the Hall Family. Edward can only be mine.”
I said calmly, “Don’t worry, I’m not going to marry Edward. I’ll be marrying someone else soon.”
Olive shook her head. “No, I don’t trust that.”
She held the baby, her expression suddenly changing. “Eliza, I know you don’t like me, but why would you go after the child?”
I furrowed my brow, confused. “What are you talking about?”
I saw a patch of red rash spreading across the baby’s skin.

Olive choked back tears. “You knew Theo is allergic to domestic diapers, yet you still put them on him! Eliza, Theo is my whole life! You’re trying to kill me!”
I tried to reason with her, “You never told me about this before. The diapers were in the room, sol just changed him.”
But the baby’s piercing cries filled the room again and the rash was spreading even more.
Suddenly, I understood everything. I smiled coldly, pointing at the rash, “So this was your doing, huh? I never thought you’d even hurt your own child.”
A cruel glint flashed in her eyes. “So what if it was me?”
The next moment, she raised her hand and slapped herself hard. “Eliza, it’s okay if you hit me! Please, just spare Theo!”
Edward rushed out of the room just in time to catch Olive as she staggered.
“I didn’t… I didn’t touch her…”
Edward suddenly slapped me hard across the face.
“Eliza, so you had me go get the key just to get me out of the way on purpose! You’re this vicious? You really can’t tolerate Olive at all and you couldn’t wait to hurt her?”
Olive covered her face and wept, pulling on Edward’s arm. “Edward, don’t blame Eliza. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have bothered her. Theo just had an allergic reaction. I’ll put some ointment on
him and he’ll be fine.”
The moment he heard the word “Theo“, Edward’s expression changed. He quickly glanced down
at the swaddled infant.
“Theo had an allergic reaction? What happened?”
Olive glanced timidly at me but said nothing.
Edward pulled her gently into his arms and coaxed her in a soft voice, “Olive, as long as I’m here, no one will bully you. Just say it.”
Thinking back, even when we were at our closest, he never spoke to me in such a gentle tone.
“I told Eliza before… Theo is allergic to domestic diapers, but she still…”
I dug my nails deep into my palm and cut off Olive’s words. “I didn’t know the baby was allergic to domestic diapers.”
Edward turned to me, glaring viciously, enunciating every word. “Eliza, don’t you dare lay a finger on my child! Now, Olive and the baby are my everything!”
He took two steps forward and slammed me to the ground. “Apologize!”
My face scraped against the rough floor, instantly torn open and bleeding. The blood blurred my
vision.
“I didn’t do anything wrong! She framed me on purpose!”
The next moment, Edward made a phone call.
Bodyguards immediately appeared in the room and pinned me down.
A large tray of peanuts was placed in front of me.
I was severely allergic to peanuts–just three grams could send me into anaphylactic shock,

threatening my life.
“Edward, what are you doing? I’m allergic to peanuts! I’ll die!”
Edward sat on the sofa, towering above me with a cold expression.
Olive tugged at his sleeve. “Edward, this might be too much for Eliza… She really looks like she‘: in danger…”
Edward sneered. “That’s exactly what I want. Otherwise, she’ll never understand how wrong
was! Do it!”

One bodyguard held me down while the other grabbed a handful of peanuts and shoved them straight into my mouth.
Before long, my body broke out in red rashes, my tongue swelled and I struggled to breathe.
Just before I lost consciousness, I saw Edward leaving for the hospital alongside Olive and the baby, satisfied.
When I woke up again, I was in a hospital.
Thankfully, I had managed to call emergency services in the final moments.
The attending doctor was examining me, his expression full of disapproval. “You went into anaphylactic shock. If you hadn’t been rescued in time, you would’ve died.”
Before I could respond, he continued, “We looked through your emergency contacts and found someone listed as ‘fiancé‘. But when we called him, he said he didn’t care whether you lived or died. Are you sure he’s your fiancé?”
I gave a bitter smile and shook my head. “No. He’s my ex–fiancé.”
My current fiancé… was someone else. It wouldn’t be long before I marry him.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed. It was a new post from Olive on her social media.
“Just a little allergic reaction, yet he opened a VIP ward and stayed the whole night with me.”
Attached was a close–up photo of her and Edward, cheek to cheek, with Theo in her arms.
Even knowing the truth, I couldn’t stop the pain in my heart, tears still fell.
Just then, I received a call from Jason.
“Eliza, I just landed in Northwyn. I’m heading straight to prepare for our wedding. I’ve already brought in a world–famous designer from Paris to make your wedding dress…”
I cut him off. “No need. I already have a dress.”
