Chapter 1
After her rebirth, the first thing Aria Pierce did was spend five billion dollars to buy a secluded
island cut off from the world.
The staff handling the paperwork were utterly bewildered. After all, this island wasn’t famous worldwide–not only was it unknown to outsiders, but it was completely isolated from civilization. You couldn’t even find it on GPS; it was essentially cut off from the world entirely.
“Miss Pierce, are you sure you want to purchase this island? If you buy it and move there, it’ll be nearly impossible to stay in contact with the outside world.”
Aria nodded, her voice carrying a note of relief.
“That’s exactly what I want–no one being able to reach me.”
The
person on the other end paused, seemingly finding her request rather strange. But maintaining professional courtesy, he didn’t pry further and simply explained the island purchase process in detail, including when she could move in.
Learning that the whole process would only take a few days, Aria breathed a sigh of relief. She
swiped her card without hesitation, then turned and left.
Outside, looking up at the azure sky above, she tilted her head back and exhaled deeply.
The money for the island came from Maxwell Thornton’s engagement gift.
As the wealthiest man in Boston, he had always been generous, so when he gave the engagement gift, it was a whopping five billion dollars.
In her previous life, she hadn’t even had the chance to spend a penny before she died.
This rebirth had brought her back to just after their engagement.
Living again, the first thing she learned was–not to shortchange herself.
Aria had barely stepped onto the sidewalk when a sleek black Maybach screeched to a halt right in front of her. The door flew open, and Maxwell emerged, his long legs carrying him toward her with
urgency.

Chapter 1
The normally composed CEO looked uncharacteristically frantic, his sharp eyes unable to hide his
concern.
This was the first time she’d seen him since her rebirth, and his name slipped from her lips
automatically.
“Uncle Max…”
But Maxwell didn’t even look at her properly. He simply grabbed her hand and pulled her toward
the car.
“Aria, come with me. Now.”
She tumbled onto the back seat, her head smacking against the door with a painful thud.
But Maxwell was too busy staring at his phone screen to notice her discomfort.
The car sped through the city until it finally stopped at the entrance of Boston Memorial Hospital.
Before the vehicle had even fully stopped, he was yanking her out by the hand and rushing toward the blood donation center.
It wasn’t until she was sitting across from a nurse, watching the needle pierce her vein, that Maxwell finally offered an explanation.
“Serena fell down the stairs. She’s bleeding badly. They won’t need much blood this time, don’t
worry.”
Before Aria could respond, a stinging slap landed across her face.
“You stupid girl! Where the hell have you been? Haven’t I told you a thousand times to stay with your sister at all times? You can’t just disappear on us!”
Her cheek burned like fire, tears instantly springing to her eyes.
She looked up at her mother’s furious face, unable to form words.
Beside her, her father wrapped an arm around her mother while shooting Aria a glare equally filled with rage.
“Are you deliberately trying to give us a heart attack? If anything happens to Serena, I swear to God I’ll make you regret it!”

And her brother, Connor, couldn’t even be bothered to look at her.
“We should just put her on a leash at this point,” he muttered. “Keep her from running off.”
This was her family–people who would gladly flay her alive for her sister, all because she’d disappeared for just one hour.
Even Maxwell, the only one who occasionally defended her, was solely focused on Serena’s
wellbeing.
“Everyone, keep it down. Serena needs to receive her transfusion in peace.”
Who would ever care about her? She was nothing but Serena’s personal blood bank.
The only reason she existed in this world was because Serena had been born with hemophilia, a
severe blood clotting disorder that required regular transfusions.
Her parents had conceived Aria for the sole purpose of keeping Serena alive.
Even their names revealed the stark difference in how they were valued. Serena–serene, peaceful,
beautiful. Aria? Just two random syllables thrown together without thought.
She’d been a blood bag since childhood, her wrists perpetually marked with needle punctures.
Nobody loved her. Her parents treated her like medical equipment, her brother acknowledged only one sister, and she was always the unwanted extra.
Only one person had ever shown her kindness–Maxwell.
The Thornton and Pierce families had been close for generations. Though Maxwell was only six years older than Serena, family hierarchy meant Aria had to call him “Uncle Max.”
Growing up in a household where she was invisible, Aria naturally fell for the one person who
showed her warmth and attention.
When she confessed her feelings to him, he seemed shocked, not exactly joyful, but he accepted her declaration and promised to marry her.
God knows how happy she’d been. The man she loved actually loved her back.
She thought she’d used up all her life’s luck on winning Maxwell’s heart.
Chapter 1
So even if her parents and brother didn’t care about her, she could live with that.
But later she discovered the devastating truth: Maxwell’s true love had always been Serena!
He’d agreed to marry Aria solely because he feared that if she married someone else, she might become uncontrollable and refuse to continue donating blood to Serena, endangering her life.
His love for Serena was so deep that he was willing to sacrifice his own happiness just to keep her
safe.
Like a complete fool, Aria had been kept in the dark, smugly celebrating her upcoming marriage to
Maxwell.
Pathetic. Utterly pathetic.
The ER doors swung open, and Serena was wheeled out surrounded by attentive nurses.
Her father, mother, Connor, and Maxwell immediately abandoned Aria, rushing toward Serena like
a
swarm.
Watching them fuss over her sister with genuine concern, Aria only felt physically sick.
Then she let out a bitter laugh, fighting against the dizziness from the blood donation. She rolled
down her sleeve, stood up, and walked toward the exit.
Outside, she took one last look at the dazzling engagement ring on her finger–then without
hesitation, removed it and dropped it into a nearby trash can.
This time around, she wouldn’t beg her parents for scraps of affection. She wouldn’t cling to Maxwell like he was her last hope for love.
This time, she didn’t need any of them.
If everyone loved precious Serena and nobody loved Aria Pierce, then fine.
She’d damn well love herself!
