Today went on as usual. I’m busy with the pile of documents on my desk, drowning in numbers and reports that must be completed before the deadline.
Until Emilie suddenly came in with an enthusiastic expression.
“Ms. Callister, Director Leclair has invited all the employees to have dinner together tonight,” she said with a wide smile.
I raised my head from the computer screen. ‘Dinner?”
Emilie nodded. “Yes. He told me to pass on the invitation to everyone. He said it was to celebrate the success of the project we just finished.”
I smiled a little. It was only natural. After all the hard work over the past few weeks, this kind of event was worth celebrating.
“Where’s for dinner?” I asked so I could prepare what dress to wear.
“At a restaurant near the city center. I’m sure you’ll like the place,” he replied with a hint of teasing
I nodded. “Okay, I’ll come.”
That evening, I arrived at the restaurant that had been reserved for the dinner event. The place was luxurious, with soft lighting and a warm atmosphere. All the employees had started to arrive, chatting casually while enjoying the drinks provided.
I stepped in wearing the red–colored dress sent by Caius. I immediately saw the man standing in the center of the room, wearing a black suit that made him look even more authoritative
Upon seeing me, he immediately stepped closer.
“You’ve come,” he said casually as he scrutinized my appearance then smiled broadly.
I nodded. “Of course. This is a company event, isn’t it?*
Calus kept smiling but didn’t say anything else.
“Thank you, the dress is very pretty,” I said happily
“A lucky dress for the right person to wear he replied complimenting me.
I folded my face in embarrassment, though my heart was very happy to hear it.
However, before I could ask further questions, someone called out to Caius, asking him to give a speech
I watched as Caius walked to the center of the room. Everyone began to focus on him. stopping their conversations
“Thank you for coming tonight.” he said in tus usual firm voice. I wanted to organize this
1 evend as a token of appreciation for all of your hard work. The last project went well, and it’s all thanks to the amazing team‘ He said white clapping his hands.

All the guests clapped along excitedly. I smiled a little, feeling proud to be a part of this
team.
However, Caius‘ next words took me by surprise.
“But, there’s one other thing I want to say tonight.” Caius paused for a moment and then, turned directly to me. “I want to introduce someone who means a lot to me.”
My heart skipped a beat.
Everyone began to follow the direction of Caius‘ gaze and within seconds, dozens of pairs of eyes were now on me.
“I’m sure you all recognize her. Althea Callister,” he said, pointing at me.
People whispered, some looking surprised, while others held back curious smiles.
Caius looked at me before continuing, “She is not only a very talented employee of this company, but also someone who is now an important part of my life,” he said. There was a proud look on his face as he introduced me.
I held my breath. What did he just say? Did I not see and hear wrong?
I could feel everyone’s gazes getting more intense. Low whispers began to be heard among the employees. I never thought Caius would admit our relationship in front of everyone like this.
It wasn’t that I was embarrassed, I just… didn’t expect it at all.
After Damien, I thought that a man with power and high status would always prefer to keep their relationship a secret. I thought Caius would also do the same, given his position in the company.
But apparently, I was wrong. Caius didn’t want to hide me. He wasn’t afraid to introduce me in front of everyone.
I swallowed, trying to find words. But before I could say anything, someone from our team suddenly shouted in a joking tone.
“So, when’s the wedding invitation, Mr. Leclair?”
People laughed, some cheered loudly. I could feel my face heating up with embarrassment, but Caius just smiled calmly.
“You’ll be the first to know when the time comes,” he replied casually with a chuckle.
I immediately turned to him with wide eyes. Caius just looked at me with a flat expression, as if he hadn’t just said something that made my heart almost stop beating.
The people’s laughter was getting louder, but I couldn’t focus on them. I was still processing what had just happened.
And what confused me the most. Why didn’t I feel as scared as I used to? Why did I feel lighter instead?
I looked at Caius. He just smiled at me, his gaze full of confidence.
And at that moment, I realized one thing. I was no longer living in someone’s shadow. I was no longer someone who had to be hidden.
