Waldo wounds had recently healed quite well, and he appeared to be in no serious condition anymore.
These past few days, Adele had been visiting frequently. The King seemed to be particularly indulgent toward her, even granting her a token that allowe her to leave the palace freely to visit her son.
It was something rarely seen among the imperial consorts.
The other women in the harem were resentful but dared not voice it aloud. After all, everyone knew that a mother’s status rose with her son’s. With a son like the “War God” Waldo, Adele’s status in the harem was nearly equal to that of the Queen herself.
Learning that Priscilla was still being confined in the woodshed, Adele felt quite satisfied.
She said, “Although I’m filled with resentment toward that scheming little wretch, I loathe even more that ignorant, backwater woman who only knows how to drag you down.”
Adele looked at Waldo and smiled gently. “Waldo, I’ve selected a few beautiful and talented ladies for you. Some are elegant, others are spirited. You
should take a look.”
She had ordered Aryana to bring the portrait scrolls, which were unfurled one by one before Waldo. Many of the ladies were truly stunning.
But Waldo remained disinterested throughout.
“Mom, when it comes to beauty, who in Capitalia can compare to Jessica? But I don’t care about those things,” he said with a wave of his hand, signaling for Aryana to roll up the scrolls.
It wasn’t until Adele mentioned Priscilla that Waldo remembered he’d locked her in the woodshed for several days.
Lately, he’d been busy handling leftover military affairs, preparing for the Autumn Hunt, and recovering from his injuries. He hadn’t thought about
Priscilla at all.
He said, “Mother, the only thing I care about now is winning the Autumn Hunt. I don’t want to think about anything else.”
“Have you finalized your team?” Adele asked, still worried about his condition despite the event’s delay.
Waldo replied, “The wound has mostly healed. There are still a few days before the hunt. If I focus on recovery, it won’t affect the finals.”
“Prince Leon’s team is competing this year. He’s your strongest rival. And now that we’ve lost Garbisch from our side…” Adele paused, clearly displeased. “Though I never thought much of him, he was quite skilled in riding and archery.”
With their side weakened and the enemy strengthened, it w
s not looking ideal.
Waldo said, “Don’t worry. I already have someone in mind. I won’t disappoint you.”
After seeing Adele off, Hughie couldn’t help but say, “Your Highness, we’re still… one person short on the team.”
“How has Priscilla been these past days?” Waldo asked as he headed toward the woodshed in the rear courtyard.
Hughie answered honestly, “She made a fuss at first, shouting and throwing a tantrum, but after half a day, she quieted down. She hasn’t caused any
more trouble since.”
As they spoke, Waldo stood just outside the woodshed.
He had confined the woman he once treasured like a gem in such a place for days. But at that moment, Waldo felt little sympathy in his heart.
With a wave of his hand, Hughie went inside and brought Priscilla out.
