Chapter 8
Nathan’s newly established studio had fallen behind on employee wages.
Photos showed his rented office door plastered with payment demand notices.
Others captured intimidating debt collectors blocking the studio entrance.
They were calling Nathan out by name, demanding he show his face and pay up, drawing crowds of onlookers.
That afternoon, Nathan’s parents showed up at my company.
After failing to reach me by phone, they had no choice but to come in person.
In just one month, Nathan’s father’s hair had turned mostly white, his back slightly hunched. His mother looked hollow–eyed and utterly exhausted.
This time, they didn’t mention our families‘ years of connection or suggest reconciliation.
They simply begged me to spare Nathan.
“Valerie… please, we’re begging you…”
“We know Nathan wronged you. He made terrible mistakes. Everything happening now, he brought on himself.”
“But please, for the sake of the years you spent as husband and wife… show mercy. Leave him some way to survive.”
The elderly couple broke down in tears, nearly falling to their knees.
I quickly stopped them, helping them to the sofa.
But I wouldn’t relent.
“You’re misunderstanding something important.”
“This situation isn’t my doing–it’s the path he chose.”
“When he was willing to destroy me for Olivia’s sake without a second thought, he should have anticipated this
outcome.”
“I gave him chances. He pushed them away with his own hands.”
“If you want me to back off now, fine.”
“Have Nathan sign these divorce papers.”
I signaled my lawyer to present the new divorce agreement I’d already prepared.
“Once he signs, I’ll immediately cease all targeted business actions against him.”

“This is the only dignity he can salvage for himself–his last chance.”
The Fullers stared at the agreement, the color draining from their faces.
How they convinced Nathan, I neither know nor care to know.
I only know that under my lawyer’s relentless pressure, the crushing weight of public opinion, and mounting debt…
Three days later, I received the divorce papers with Nathan’s signature.
Not long after that, the divorce was totally finalized.
Post–divorce, Nathan lost everything–his career, reputation, love, and wealth. His life hit rock bottom.
Meanwhile, I was constantly making headlines. Company value reached record highs, and several key investment projects yielded returns far beyond expectations.
The new film project I personally spearheaded officially launched.
We partnered with the industry’s top writing team, production crew, and A–list actors.
Having lost the protection of Carter Entertainment and drowning in debt, Nathan had completely lost his usefulness to Olivia.
The girl who had played the gentle, vulnerable sunshine role in front of him quickly showed her true colors.
She began treating Nathan coldly, eventually escalating to verbal abuse.
When Nathan had another emotional breakdown over his mounting debt, Olivia finally tore off her last mask of
pretense.
“Smash, smash, SMASH! That’s all you do! What good does breaking shit do?”
“I really thought the great Director Fuller would actually have the juice to make me a superstar!”
“Turns out without Valerie, you’re fucking nothing!”
Nathan jerked his head up to look at her, his face etched with disbelief.
“Olivia, what… what did you just say?”
Seeing his shocked expressión, Olivia laughed even more cruelly.
“What did I say? I said you’re an IDIOT!”
“You actually believed I was really going to kill myself at that bridge?!”
“That was a goddamn perfoemance I put on for you!”
“I know men like you–suckers for the damsel in distress, always itching to play the hero!”

“I bet you’d feel sorry for me, guilty, like you owed something to this poor ‘talented genius‘!”
“And you took the bait! Treated me like some precious treasure. Hilarious!”
“Too bad you’re such a pathetic loser! Too fucking stupid!!”
