Chapter 4
I set down my documents and looked up calmly.
He continued his tirade:
“We’ve already left the production! What more do you want?”
“How long are you going to keep bullying her?”
Watching his impotent rage, I couldn’t help but smile.
“Nathan, what makes you think I had anything to do with it?”
“You took an invitation that should have been mine and used it to network for her, I should be the one demanding
answers here!”
“The audacity of you playing the victim right now?”
“Let me remind you–people in this industry aren’t stupid!”
“They can see exactly what you two are doing. Crystal clear.”
“Hand on heart, is this really about people targeting you, or is it your own damn mess?!”
Nathan was speechless, his chest heaving violently.
He could only point at me, humiliated and angry:
“You-”
I swatted his hand away, my lips curling into a cold smile:
“What?”
“Don’t forget what you promised me. To write screenplays only for me, for the rest of your life.”
“You come home, not a single word of explanation, just straight to anger and accusations.”
“Nathan, do you even consider me your wife anymore?!”
Under my relentless questioning, Nathan remained silent for a long time before speaking difficultly:
“I just saw her potential. She works hard and shows promise. I was only trying to give her a boost.”
“There’s nothing inappropriate between us. It’s completely professional.”
I looked at him, disappointment filling my eyes:

“Professional? Really?”
“Nathan, for her sake, you didn’t just take my screenplay and ignore my warnings–you were willing to publicly
clash with me.”
“And you call that professional?”
“She has potential? There are thousands of talented actresses out there. Are you planning to help every single one
like this?”
“No matter how promising she is, she’s still a newcomer.”
“By fast–tracking her to the top, are you helping her or setting her up to fail?”
“Let’s not even get into whether her rookie acting skills could carry an S–tier production!”
“Even if she could handle it, that screenplay is MINE!”
“I spent THREE YEARS refining and polishing that script. Did you not see any of my effort?”
“Why does your casual whim override all my hard work? What gives you the right to make these decisions?”
“Why this project specifically? She’s an actress, but I’m an actress too, and I also need quality roles!”
“Why can you ignore my feelings to help someone else?”
“Nathan, have you shown me even the most basic respect as your wife?”
“Do you actually even love me?”
Nathan remained silent for a long time, the tension gradually leaving his body.
He looked up at me, his face showing rare remorse, his eyes reddening:
“I’m sorry.”
“It was my fault. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“I do love you. You’re the only one in my heart.”
He came over and embraced me, his chest burning hot:
“I just saw her getting bullied when she came to audition alone, and it reminded me of when I first started out.”
“No connections, no support, being looked down on, facing contempt at every turn…”
“I was wrong. You can yell at me, hit me, whatever you need.”
“I truly didn’t mean to hurt you.”
In all our years of marriage, this was the first time he’d shown such vulnerability.

Feeling dampness on my shoulder, I sighed softly, my heart finally softening.
“I’ll let this incident go.”
“But Olivia–I don’t want to hear that name from your lips again, and I definitely don’t want to see you having any connection with her.”
“If she truly has talent, let her make it on her own merits.”
“This is the last chance, Nathan.”
I pushed him away, looking straight into his swollen eyes, emphasizing each word:
“If there’s a next time, we’re getting divorced. I will never tolerate betrayal from my partner.”
He seemed genuinely frightened, his entire body trembling.
With reddened eyes and a choked voice, he said:
“Okay. I will never let us get divorced.”
He held me tightly in his arms, squeezing as if he wanted to merge me into his very being.
