Chapter 3
Nathan didn’t come home that night.
I couldn’t care less, working alone in my study on company documents.
Then my assistant forwarded me two screenshots.
The first showed a charity gala, packed with socialites and industry heavyweights.
Nathan was beaming as he introduced Olivia to one of the most influential veteran producers in the business.
The second screenshot was from Olivia’s social media.
It featured her posing with several industry bigwigs, with Nathan standing intimately close to her.
Her caption read:
“So grateful to Director Fuller for the introductions! Met so many incredible mentors tonight. Feeling inspired!”
“I’ll keep working hard to live up to everyone’s expectations!”
My expression grew colder by the second.
After being kicked off my set, Nathan wasn’t backing down–he was doubling down.
Trying to use my connections to pave the way for his little pet project?
In his dreams!
I texted my assistant:
“Check it out. See what’s really happening. I don’t want random people throwing my name around for clout.”
“On it.”
Shortly after, my assistant sent me a live video from the event.
In the footage, producer Mónica Reed was directly asking Olivia about her previous notable roles.
Olivia stammered, unable to name anything significant.
Monica looked her up and down, smirking with undisguised contempt:
“Look, I get that young people want shortcuts these days, but a pretty face and knowing how to schmooze won’t cut
it.”
“Force–launching someone without talent never works long–term.”

Chapter 3
She then turned to Nathan, her implication crystal clear:
“Some people direct a few films and suddenly forget who they really are, don’t they?”
“Seem to conveniently forget who supported their entire career.”
“Now that they’ve got a name, they’ve upgraded their arm candy too.”
“Just remember–talented directors are a dime a dozen in this town.”
Her words caused everyone nearby to eye Olivia and Nathan with suspicious looks.
Whispers about their relationship spread through the room.
Nathan’s face turned absolutely livid.
He tried explaining that his relationship with Olivia was strictly professional.
But nobody gave a damn about his explanation.
One by one, they mentioned being partners with Carter Entertainment.
Any potential casting discussions, they emphasized, would only happen directly with me.
After enduring wave after wave of thinly veiled insults, the embarrassed pair fled the scene.
This outcome didn’t surprise me one bit.
News of Olivia trying to steal my role and prancing around in my costume had already spread throughout the entire industry by afternoon.
Everyone at that gala had known me for nearly a decade, since the beginning of my career.
When I won my Oscar, Nathan was still a nobody.
Beyond my own standing in entertainment, I had the entire Carter Group behind me.
When I first decided to enter the entertainment world, my father handed me a media company to launch my career.
Even if these people didn’t respect me personally, they respected my father.
Everyone knew exactly which side their bread was buttered on.
Nathan didn’t return until the middle of the night.
He stormed straight into my study, fuming.
“Valerie! Monica ambushing Olivia tonight–that was your doing, wasn’t it?!”
