Chapter 10
The cold Swiss air enveloped my body as I stood in front of the towering office building. I took a deep breath, trying to calm the pounding of my heart that was suddenly beating faster.
Today was my first day of work at Leclair Corporation, one of the largest investment and asset management companies in Switzerland.
I can’t afford to fail.
I stepped into the building, greeted by a modern interior with gleaming glass walls. The sound of high heels clacking on the marble floor, a busy atmosphere, full of well–dressed employees passing by.
I went straight to the reception desk.
“Good morning, I’m Althea Callister. This is my first day working here,” I said politely.
The receptionist smiled kindly, before nodding and replying, “Welcome, Ms. Callister. Please go to the 23rd floor, investment management section. The Assistant Director will meet you there.”
I thanked her and stepped into the elevator. As the doors opened, I stepped inside and pressed the button for the 23rd floor.
Inside the elevator, I stared at my reflection on the glass wall. The woman who was there, was no longer the weak Althea trapped in someone’s shadow. Now, I was starting my own
life.
As the elevator doors opened, I stepped out and was greeted by a blonde woman in a
cream–colored work suit.
“Ms. Callister?” she asked with a professional smile.
“Yes,” I replied with a nod.
“I’m Emilie, assistant to Director Leclair. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’ll escort you to your desk,” she said kindly while pointing her hand somewhere.
I followed her past the rows of desks of employees who seemed busy with their work. Most of them glanced back at me, some smiling faintly. While others only glanced at me, before refocusing on their work.
“Mr. Leclair would like to see you for a moment,” Emilie said suddenly, bringing my steps to a halt.
I turned to her. “Mr. Leclair?” I asked confused.
Emilie smiled. “The managing director of this company.”
‘Apparently, the company is named after the owner, I said to myself.
I nodded slowly and followed her to a large room at the end of the corridor. Emilie knocked on the door before opening it and gesturing for me to enter.
I stepped inside, and my eyes immediately fell on the man standing by the large window

with a stunning view of the Swiss city.
Caius Leclair.

The man was wearing a dark gray suit that fit his body perfectly. His brown hair was neatly combed, and he had a sharp look in his eyes as he turned to me.
For a few seconds, 1 felt like I was locked in that gaze. He wasn’t just handsome, but he had such a strong aura of power and confidence.
I quickly pulled myself together and stepped closer to introduce myself. “Good morning, Mr. Leclair. I am Althea Callister.”
Caius looked at me for a moment before nodding. “Welcome to the Leclair Corporation, Miss Callister.”
His voice was deep and calm, possessing a controlled tone.
I stood up straight, waiting for his next words.
“I’ve read your profile. Your academic achievements are impressive, and your work experience in the investment field is also quite good,” he said as he walked over.
I wasn’t surprised that he had read my profile. A director like him would not accept just anyone to work for his company.
“I hope you can give your best to this company,” he continued. His gaze didn’t leave me, as if it was intimidating.
1 looked at him directly and nodded. “Of course, sir. I will do my best.”
At a glance, I saw the corners of his lips lift slightly. It was either a sign of satisfaction or just a casual gesture.
“Good,” he said then, glancing at Emilie. “Help her adapt to the work environment.” He gave an order that sounded serious.
Emilie nodded. “Of course, sir.”
Caius looked at me once more, before returning to his desk. I understood that this meeting was over, so I bowed slightly and exited the room with Emilie.
As I returned to my desk, I exhaled softly. My meeting with Caius Leclair may have been brief, but there was something in the look in his eyes that made me think.
I don’t know if it’s just me or not, but I feel that I haven’t seen all sides of Caius Leclair. Very
mysterious
However, one thing is for sure, I must work very well and not throw away this good opportunity. I came here to build my future. And, I will make sure that no one can destroy it again, just like Damien did to me yesterday.
