Thinking about it for a while, I still decided not to tell him the full truth. I only said that Nathan had been pestering me and Jessica Grant was using her influence to pressure people to capture me and keep me company for her son.
After hearing me out, Liam Carter was silent for a moment before nodding.
“I’m here. Don’t be afraid. Take a bath first, get some good rest. I’ll sleep in the living room tonight.”
Looking into his eyes, I knew he saw through my lie. After all, we grew up together and I knew he’d always liked me.
Liam wasn’t handsome–just average, someone who wouldn’t stand out in a crowd. In the past, wasn’t sure whether what I felt for him was friendship or something more. I didn’t like that his career as a special police officer often kept him away on missions, making me fear marrying him.
But after the tragedy in my previous life, I realized that in marriage, appearance wasn’t important. What mattered was security and responsibility.

The results came back quickly–my phone didn’t have any tracking installed. It was just that Susan Moore had linked my account with hers, so she could see my location.
I remembered she once told me we could link accounts to help find phones if lost.
In the following days, I knew Jessica Grant wouldn’t give up easily, so I had no choice but to stay put with Liam.

“Put the dog down and I promise to send you abroad. I won’t hurt you.”

Susan Moore raised Teddy over the rooftop edge.
“You think I’d believe your words? Don’t come closer, or I’ll throw him down right now!”
“Fine, fine. Take it easy, I won’t come closer.”
Seeing me, Susan immediately pointed.
“Lena Quinn, I’m only asking one thing. after I picked up this dog, did you hear anything?”
Thinking for a moment, I nodded.
“Hahahaha, I knew it. You lied to me. Hahahaha… I knew there was still a chance.”
“Lena Quinn, we’re all victims, all lied to…”
“I’ll help you take them down this time, okay? Then we’ll do it all over again together.”
She slurred the last words, but I saw them clearly.
Before I could answer, she looked at Jessica again.
“Jessica Grant, don’t you want your son to live? Come over here and I’ll give him back.”
Jessica, desperate for her son, ignored the police and walked forward.
I understood immediately what she wanted to do and shouted to stop her.
“Susan More, don’t!”
But it was too late.
As Jessica reached out to grab Teddy, Susan pulled her and they both jumped off the eighteenth–floor rooftop.
Though there was an air cushion, the impact was too great. The two women and the dog died on the spot.
Looking at Susan’s broken body, I sighed.
She didn’t know that chance at rebirth was her only redemption.
That night, after I confirmed my feelings for Liam, I traded that chance for a lifetime of peace and safety.
So there was no next life at all.
In the days that followed, no matter how dangerous Liam’s missions got, he always came back safely.
Two years later, I married him.
On our wedding night, Liam wrapped his arms around me.
‘Wife, will you regret this?”
“No,” I said, “Because I already regretted it in my previous life.”
He didn’t believe me.
