Chapter 178
Leon’s steps were steady this time as he walked up to Jessica.
With a thud, he suddenly dropped to one knee in front of her.
“Demon King ..” She instinctively wanted to flee.
His words carried too much weight, and it was too frightening.
But Leon suddenly reached out and held her ankle.
Jessica instinctively tried to pull away, but with her ankle in his grasp, her movement threw her off balance. She fell backward.
Then, she realized she had retreated all the way to the edge of the bed. The next moment, she sat down abruptly.
Leon lifted her foot and, lowering his head, gently kissed the top of it.
“What are you doing?” Jessica cried out in alarm, quickly pulling her foot back.
Yet even she could feel that his gesture held no hint of disrespect. He was being sincere.
Leon said, “This is the highest form of a man’s vow to a woman in the Northern Borderlands. I pledge my life to you, Jessica. If you’re willing, I will be your servant for life.”
“Stop talking nonsense! I’m not willing! Not even a little!” Jessica panicked and scrambled off the bed.
This time, she ran all the way to the door, just about to open it.
But Leon remained kneeling there, in the same position, still looking at her.
Her heart pounded violently, her breathing chaotic. She stared at the man who had barged into her boudoir in the middle of the night. She was furious.
She said, “You are the King’s son, a noble prince! Please, don’t ever say things like that again. If someone from the royal family hears you, I’ll be in serious
trouble!”
If the royals heard this, they would definitely come after her again.
Leon only gave a smile and slowly stood up. He started toward her, but when he saw she was really about to open the door, he stopped in his tracks.
“Did I frighten you?” he asked. He hadn’t intended to confess so soon, but after tonight’s physical closeness, he realized he might not be able to wait any longer.
He wished Jessica could marry her sooner. He wanted so badly to hold her again, in a more intimate, more indulgent way.
Leon pressed his lips together, forcing himself to stop spiraling into such thoughts.
Some desires were like drugs. The more one indulged, the more addicted one became, until they were impossible to control.
Leon said, “No matter. I’ll give you more time to think.”
“And what if I never agree?” Jessica asked coldly.
Leon seriously pondered the question. Truthfully, it was something he had never considered.
Then, he said, “I believe you eventually will. After all, you already promised to marry me once.”
“Stop making things up!” Jessica glared at him.

His expression grew complicated, but in the pitch dark room, Jessica couldn’t see it clearly.
“Jessica, is it because you think I’m ugly? I actually look better than Waldo,” he said, sounding a little aggrieved. He wanted to approach, but le wed

He raised his hand.
Jessica panicked. “Don’t come any closer!”
Leon’s fingers brushed against his mask, but her words made him pause. “What use is a man’s appearance in the end? I don’t need a man. I won’t get married! If you care for me, then please respect my decision.”
Leon hesitated for a moment, then lowered his hand.
He said, “I won’t give up. I’ll wait until the day you nod your head.”
He turned and walked toward the window. Just before leaving, he glanced back at her one last time. “Do you need my help for the Autumn Hunt? Say the word, and the Leon House will withdraw from the competition. Our best horsemen and archers will be at your command.”
