As Leon’s body lowered, the oppressive feeling grew even more intense in an instant.
Jessica flushed with anger and shouted, “Bastard! If you don’t get up right now, I won’t let you off!”
Above her, Leon let out a helpless yet restrained sigh. At last, he released her.
Jessica immediately scrambled away from under him, retreating as far as she could before turning to glare at him. “Prince or not, you cannot treat the woman of the Yates family this way! If you dare to…”
“I didn’t mean to offend you. I just lost control for a moment. I’m sorry,” Leon said, his tone surprisingly sincere.
Jessica still wanted to scold him. But seeing how he actually admitted fault, she decided not to. Scolding him wouldn’t do anything. Still, she was fuming.
“Jessica, let’s get married,” Leon suddenly said.
All the fury in Jessica’s chest instantly turned to shock. “Do you even understand what you’re saying? Is this kind of joke amusing to you?”
“When have I ever joked with you?” Leon stared at her intently.
Jessica said coldly, “If you truly intend to marry me, why not seek a royal decree from His Majesty instead of just telling me so? Without the King’s edict, your words are nothing more than an empty promise!”
She had only wanted to deter him. But unexpectedly, Leon’s eyes lit up because of her words.
“So… you mean, you’re agreeing?” Leon’s voice carried unmistakable excitement. “Very well. Since you’ve agreed, I’ll enter the palace tomorrow and ask Father for a marriage decree.”
Jessica replied, “You… what nonsense is this?” It didn’t sound like a joke at all.
Jessica added, “Please don’t toy with me. I’m a woman who broke off an engagement with Prince Waldo. How could I possibly marry you? His Majesty would never allow it!”
She paused, then suddenly seemed to understand. “So, you assume, the King won’t approve and dares to make this bold promise because you know it’ll
never happen?”
A man’s promise meant little to her. She’d seen through such things long ago. All she wanted was for Leon to stop pestering her.
“I expect my father will be furious. Perhaps even fly into a rage,” Leon said with a slight smile.
He continued, “But I have military merit. I helped pacify the Northern Borderlands. That’s not something just anyone can claim! I’ll stand in court and ask for marriage based on my contributions. There’s no reason for my father to refuse.”
“Are you… serious?” Jessica’s voice trembled as a chill ran through her body.
She could tell he wasn’t joking. She didn’t know what he was thinking at all.
“Your Highness…” Jessica’s voice wavered.
Leon said, “Jessica, do you think I’m just playing with you?”
Leon leaned against a table, gazing at her figure in the darkness. But he didn’t dare look too closely.
That feeling from earlier was so sweet. It was almost addictive. He had taken a great deal of restraint to suppress it.
The pain of holding back wasn’t something ordinary people could bear.

Leon gazed intently at Jessica’s face, longing to step closer, yet keenly
aware of her clear resistance.
He held his ground but kept his gaze fixed on her, cold and resolute. “Jessica, I’m waiting for you to agree/

way of respecting her.
Otherwise, if he simply requested the decree,
