Chapter 14
The black sports car sped through deserted streets, the driver’s face hidden in shadow, his expression unreadable.
“Liza…” he whispered, his heart heavy with guilt and regret.
He slammed his fist against the steering wheel just as his phone rang.
Pulling over, he answered. His grandmother’s voice came through immediately.
“Liam, have you found Eliza? What did she say? Has she forgiven us?”
Liam’s heart sank, but he tried to reassure her. “Liza’s always been understanding. She’ll forgive me.
His grandmother’s sobbing intensified. “I never should have slapped her. She must hate me now.”
Liam’s emotions were in turmoil. “Grandma, I’ll call you back later. Please get some rest.”
For the first time ever, he hung up on her, cutting off her sobs.
He’d quit smoking years ago because Eliza hated the smell.
But now, he didn’t know how else to calm his nerves.
“Liza, you’re not mad at me… right?”
Through the swirling smoke, Liam replayed his recent actions over and over, finally slapping himself in disgust.
‘Liam, how could you fall for someone like her? Are you really that blind? You pushed away the one person who truly loved you–how could you not see that?”
He put out the cigarette and looked at the dark mansion before him.
Eliza must be asleep by now.
Liam got out of the car but hesitated at the door, waiting for the smoke smell to dissipate, afraid to
go in.

Chapter 14
Who would have thought that Liam Harris–feared and respected in the business world–could be so utterly lost?
“Liza, you won’t blame me. You’ll understand, right?”
He kept muttering to himself, but couldn’t forget Maya’s words:
“No wonder Eliza couldn’t wait to divorce you!”
“Surprise, Liam. Eliza already left you! She’s gone!”
“No, that can’t be true!” Liam’s panic grew. “Liza loves me. She’ll forgive me…”
His voice grew quieter, doubt creeping in. After everything he’d done, would she really forgive him?
Thinking back, he realized he hadn’t seen Eliza in nearly a month. He’d been at the hospital with
Maya, never once considering that his wife was waiting for him at home, alone.
Only today, when he accidentally discovered the truth, did he suddenly wake up and realize what
he’d done–how long he’d neglected the woman he loved.
A sharp pain stabbed through Liam’s heart. “Liza, I’ll make it up to you…”
He pushed open the door and froze, his heart plummeting into an abyss.
The house was completely empty!
Only the strong smell of dust and mildew told him no one had been here for a long time.
Liam panicked. He switched on the lights to find everything covered in a thin layer of dust.
“Liza! Liza!” He grew frantic, knowing she had mild OCD and would never allow the house to get this
dirty.
Like a man possessed, he pushed open every door, pulled out every drawer, his search changing from looking for her to looking for any trace of her.
“Liza… you really left me… you’re gone…”
Liam fell to his knees in despair, having searched every corner without finding a single thing connected to her.

Chapter 14
He felt hollow, a walking corpse in the night.
When he stumbled into the bedroom and opened the nightstand drawer, he found a manila envelope lying inside.
Liam’s eyes lit up. “Liza! You did leave me a chance!”
Clinging to his last hope, he tore open the envelope. When he saw the lettering, tears spilled
uncontrollably.
“Divorce Certificate.”
“No, no…” Liam’s hands trembled as he grabbed his phone and dialed Eliza’s number.
“Sorry, The number you’ve reached is not in service. Please check the number and try again.”
The mechanical voice repeated over and over as Liam kept redialing.
He knelt on the floor, the divorce certificate beside his knee, tears silently falling onto it.
Finally, he called his assistant. “Find my wife’s whereabouts.”
Startled from sleep, the assistant quickly responded, “I’ll contact someone immediately.”
After hanging up, Liam picked up the divorce certificate, his eyes red.
Looking at her somewhat youthful photo, he remembered all the promises he’d once made her.
‘You’ll treat her right. Spoil her like crazy, or I swear I’ll never forgive you.‘
‘Liza, I failed you…”
His younger self would surely have beaten this pathetic man to death without hesitation.
And all of this happened because…
A pale, grim smile spread across Liam’s face, his eyes gleaming coldly.
“Maya, you won’t get away with this…”
