Chapter 9
When Liam reached the hospital, Maya was sitting on the bed, eyes brimming with tears.
“Maya!” He quickly took her in his arms, speaking softly to comfort her.
“It hurts.” Maya’s tears fell like broken strings of pearls onto Liam’s suit, soaking through the fabric.
“Mr. Harris, I was at the mall trying to pick out a tie for you, but I fell…”
She began to sob. “I’m so sorry. If anything happens to the baby, I’ll never forgive myself. I can’t face grandma.
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” Liam stroked her swollen belly while gently wiping her tears with his other hand.
“The baby’s fine. He’s okay. Don’t worry.”
Maya worked hard to look pitiful. “Mr. Harris… I know the only reason I’m still by your side is because the baby.”
“Actually, I…” she paused. “I’ve always liked you. That’s why I didn’t even think twice about helping you that night.”
Maya clutched his hand. “So when I saw you on that road, I didn’t care that I was pregnant–I still ran to save you. I couldn’t just stand there and do nothing.”
“Mr. Harris–no, Liam–could you accept me?”
The more vulnerable she appeared, the more agitated Liam became.
He pushed her away, though he couldn’t bring himself to scold her.
“Maya, once the baby’s born, I’ll make sure you have enough to live well overseas. You won’t need to worry about money ever again.”
Liam’s expression hardened.
“Liam, none of that matters to me. What if all I want is you?”

Chapter 9
Seeing his reaction, Maya grabbed his hand and pressed it to her heart. “Liam, please, don’t make me leave you, okay?”
Liam exhaled heavily. For some reason, his thoughts turned to Eliza.
“No, no…” He shook his head in confusion, pulling his hand away and walking to the door. “Maya, you know me. Liza’s the only one I’ve ever loved.”
“But your grandmother likes me too. She said if it’s a boy, she’ll make you give me a recognition.”
Maya’s face turned pale as she struggled to breathe through her tears.
“Liam, after everything… you really don’t feel anything for me?”
The question hit Liam hard, making him panic,
“Maya, I don’t care what Grandmother promised you, I only love Liza, and nothing will change that.
You’d better learn to live with it.”
He quickly closed the door and leaned against it, breathing heavily.
He didn’t understand why his heart, which had only ever beaten for Eliza, had wavered slightly when faced with Maya’s tearful eyes.
“It must be because of the baby,” Liam tried to convince himself as he drove to the office.
He threw himself into work, because this way, he wouldn’t have to face his heart or the accusations
from his past self.
So Liam didn’t see the cold gleam in Maya’s eyes after he left, or her sneer.
Maya’s expression changed instantly, as if the tearful woman from moments ago had been someone
else entirely.
“Eliza’s already been pushed out by your family, and now you’re here acting like the loyal one?”
She took out her phone and made a call.
“Hi, is this Mr. Hayes’s assistant? This is Maya. I just need to know his schedule–money’s not a
problem. I really need to see him.”
Hanging up, Maya finally smiled.
