Chapter 13
Even though it was Ryan who had arranged the study trip abroad, he had not set any fixed schedule or itinerary.
When Ryan received an urgent call from home and had to return to the country, Camille chose to stay behind. He did not stop her. In fact, he fully supported the decision.
He had always believed that seeing more patients would help a doctor sharpen their skills.
Hence, Camille stayed overseas with two other highly gifted doctors. Together, they continued traveling, treating patients, and taking in the vast beauty of the world.
After witnessing the grandeur of nature and the fragility and preciousness of human life, their outlooks grew calmer and more grounded.
At first, when Camille had just gone abroad, she often found herself having to force out
smiles, and they always turned out hideous. She was mostly quiet.
However, her natural smile slowly returned over time.
She began to take pleasure in watching flowers bloom and birds fly. She admired the mountains and rivers. Every morning, she would enthusiastically do light stretching and mindfulness exercises with her two seniors. Sometimes, she would even hit the gym with them to lift weights.
Her body grew stronger and her spirit lighter. The painful memories she left behind had nearly faded.
When her two companions tentatively brought up the past, Camille simply smiled and said, “It was just a breakup. At the time, I thought my world had ended. Looking back now… It really was just a heartbreak. It’s no big deal. It’s over now.”
She truly meant it.

After exhausting every possible lead and utilizing every connection, he finally got hold of
Camille’s new phone number.
On an evening with a fiery sunset painting the sky, Jameson sat in a quiet garden, took a few deep breaths, and dialed the number. After a couple of rings, a voice came through. It was so familiar it felt like it had been carved into his bones, “Hello? This is Camille.”
He opened his mouth, but for a moment, no words came. After a beat of silence, Camille seemed to realize something. “Jameson Hart?”
She called him by his full name. That was a first.

He felt a little dazed. The first time Camille met him, she saved him and took him home.
Back then, when he had not regained his memory, she called him ‘sir‘. Once he recovered his memory and told her his real name, she began calling him ‘Mr. Jameson‘.
After he confessed his feelings, she started calling him ‘Jameson‘. In certain intimate moments, she would choke out ‘Mr. Jameson‘ between sobs, which would only make him.
want her more.
Now, she was calling him by his full name.
He parted his lips and forced out a hoarse whisper, “I’m sorry, Camille.”
Her tone was calm. It was like she was talking to an old acquaintance. “It’s okay. I forgive you. You and Sylvia were together first. Getting back together isn’t a crime. But you
should’ve broken up with me first and then-”
Jameson abruptly cut her off, “Camille!”
She went quiet. “You called just to apologize? Well, I forgive you. Anything else? If not, I’m hanging up.”
Her attitude toward him was the same as toward an old classmate or a stranger. At that

When he finally spoke again, his voice cracked. “Camille…”
Camille was startled for a moment but said nothing.

“I know I was wrong. It was all fake. Sylvia faked cancer, and I let myself believe it. I kept thinking I could step away for a moment and you’d still be waiting when I turned back.”
Once he started, the words came pouring out. He told her about his sleepless nights, the nightmares, and how every day without her felt like a lifetime. He told her how he had already punished Sylvia and Harry as well as how he had even gone to clean and repair her grandmother’s grave…
Camille said nothing.
Jameson waited, but there was only silence.
In that silence, he finally understood.
When he spoke again, his voice trembled, thick with tears. “Camille, please. Don’t be so cruel to me. Just give me one more chance. Please–just one!”
However, Camille’s voice remained steady and unmoved. “But Jameson, I don’t love you anymore.”
Even though he already knew the answer, hearing her say it still shattered his heart.
