Chapter 12
Jameson had not slept or eaten in over a day. He had been working non–stop until the moment before his flight.
However, when he arrived at the hospital where Camille was supposed to be, after all the
trouble he went through, she was already gone. It hit him like a bolt of lightning, and he shook his head violently. “No way. Camille isn’t dead. She’s not!”
He grabbed the person in front of him with alarming strength. “Where did she go?”
The man replied, “Dr. Fields was only temporarily here to assist. She’s not with Doctors Without Borders. She left with her mentor, Dr. Zach. They went to practice medicine
elsewhere.”
He exhaled in relief, but the news only made him more anxious. “Do you know where they
went?”
The man did not know.
Still, it was good as long as she was alive and as long as nothing bad had happened to her.
Jameson was not afraid of anything else.
For a moment there, when he thought something had happened to her and she might be dead, he truly understood what despair meant and what heartbreak really felt like.
He clenched one fist tightly, the knuckles protruding. “Camille, no matter where you go, I’ll find you.”
He boarded a plane and flew back home. Even after all that travel, he had not found her,
and his work had piled up. He threw himself back into work while continuing the search.
This time, Camille’s trail was especially hard to track. Even after pouring tons of manpower and resources, no real leads surfaced. His nightmares grew longer and more frequent. Sleep became nearly impossible, and he started losing weight rapidly.

However, he did not care.
His parents thought he had lost his mind.
“You’re seriously going to destroy yourself over a woman?”

Jameson, whose face was even more sharply defined from the weight loss, stayed silent for
a moment before quietly saying, “It’s what I deserve.”
Harry and Sylvia would face his revenge. As for him? Camille had given up on him. She would not do anything to him. Still, he would not let himself off the hook either.
All of them deserved to be punished.
Jameson had broken Camille’s heart, so he deserved the harshest punishment of all.
Since he could not find any news about her, he poured his energy into making Sylvia’s life a
living hell. He arranged for her to do manual labor on construction sites, clean up after
livestock on farms, scrub clients‘ feet at massage parlors, and work at the most grueling
customer service windows imaginable.
After a while, Sylvia looked nothing like the pampered heiress she once was.
Right before seeing Jameson, a difficult customer at her counter had dumped a bowl of hot soup over her head. She barely had time to clean herself up before being brought to him.
Her hair was messy and she reeked of soup. She was frighteningly thin, her complexion
pale and sickly.
When she saw Jameson, she started crying and begging. However, she no longer shed
delicate tears or looked like a pitiful beauty. Now, her sobs were raw and guttural, with snot
and tears streaming down her face. It was disgusting.
“I know I was wrong! I won’t dare to covet you again! It’s all my fault. If you find Ms.

Fields, I’ll get on my knees and beg her for forgiveness! Just let me find a job on my own.
Please!”

Jameson stayed quiet for a moment and then shook his head. He replied in a low voice, “I can’t find her anymore.”
To Sylvia, that was no different than a death sentence. Her cries turned into a full–blown
breakdown.
She did not even have the strength or courage to lash out at Jameson. All she could do was cry and beg.
“I’ll help you look for her! I’ll help you find Camille! Just please don’t make me go back to working at the massage parlor. I’ll do anything else, please!”
Jameson stared at her for a moment, then turned and walked away coldly.
Luckily, not long after, good news came. Ryan was coming back to the country!
He was one of the top doctors in the world. It was impossible for someone like him to stay abroad long–term.
When Jameson heard this, he was ecstatic. If Ryan was returning, then Camille, his apprentice, might be coming back too! He would finally get to see Camille again!
As he passed by a full–length window, Jameson caught his reflection and froze. Panic hit him. With the way he looked now, unshaven and messy, Camille was sure to hate it. He had
to fix himself up. He had to look like his old self again.
He went and got a full makeover. He even bought new clothes.
Then, he hired a nutritionist and demanded that he gain weight fast. At the very least, he could not have sunken cheeks. They made him ugly.
Camille used to love his face, so he started using skincare products, carefully applying them every morning and night.
On the day Ryan returned, Jameson had already ordered 99 Diana roses–Camille’s favorite. He wore the cologne she liked and went to the airport holding the bouquet, waiting by the arrivals gate.

However, when Ryan and his team came through the gate, there was no sign of Camille.
Jameson’s eyes darted through the crowd in disbelief. He kept checking and rechecking,
but she was not there.
The bouquet slipped from his hands and fell to the floor. He did not even notice. He could barely stand.
He wanted to go ask Ryan about it but then remembered what he had said to him in front of Camille the last time they met. If Camille had already told Ryan what he had done…
He suddenly did not have the courage to approach.
Just then, someone nearby asked, “Dr. Zach, where’s Dr. Fields?”
Ryan smiled and answered, “My apprentice? She said she’s getting a lot out of the trip and doesn’t want to come back yet. She wants to keep traveling the world, helping more
patients.”
Camille was not coming back.
Jameson leaned against the wall, his expression dark with despair.
