Chapter 34
The doors burst open and Kamilla came tumbling in, her searching eyes scanning the room until they landed on Charming. He raised a hand and waved with a smile.
Oh, no. He hadn’t turned back! She gasped and pointed at him. “Cha-!” Biting back the rest of the word, she glanced at the others who were looking at her in wonder. Kamilla wasn’t surprised. It was the middle of the night, she wasn’t looking spik’n‘ span.
She cleared her throat and slowly walked in what she hoped was a classy, royal manner. Upon reaching Charming’s side, she curled her hand into his arm.
“Uhm… Viktor, where’d you disappear to?”
Charming smiled down at her. “I was sought out to take care of a rather urgent situation, you see. These two,” he indicated the couple who still looked paler than ghosts. “They want to get married, and they’d like me to bless the union. Isn’t that delightful?!”
Kamilla bit her lip to stop from crying. How?! How had Charming managed to get all the way here?! The cheerfulness was emanating from him in sparkly little rainbow bubbles, for crying out loud!
She glanced at Demetrius who was currently looking more confused than a nun in a BDSM club. She had to get Charming out of here.
“My King,” said Demetrius quietly. “Are you not feeling well? Should I make you something to eat?”
Charming raised a hand. “None of that! There’s no time for such! This young couple is eager to tie the knot.” He turned to the couple who were now looking at him like he was their hero. “You have my word that I will personally see to your wedding, my dears.”
“Really?” asked the man eagerly. “Oh, thank you, my King! Thank you so much!”
“We’re so grateful!” said the woman. “You’re definitely the best King a Kingdom ever had.”
Kamilla gaped at them. They had tears shining in their eyes! Who got so happy about being shackled together for
life? It made no sense to her.
Anyway, she had things to do.
The couple bowed to Charming over and over, while he waved them off like a true king. When they’d left, Demetrius shuffled forward, his eyes filled with worry.
“Viktor, what is going on?” he asked.
Charming glanced at him. “I’m playing Cupid,” he said with a smile. Kamilla nearly face–palmed. Demetrius’s jaw nearly touched the ground.
Squaring his shoulders, Charming walked over to the open doors. “I’ll be in my chambers!” he called as he walked
off.

Chapter 34
Kamilla gulped. Damage control. She had to do damage control. Crap, if only she could erase Demetrius’s memory!
She turned to him, but he was quicker.
“You just let him do that?!” he demanded.
Kamilla blinked. “Uh… what? Uhm… yeah. About that, forget about it. He, uhm… he has a fever, so-”
“Is that the excuse my King’s going to give to the Elders? That he had a fever?! That marriage could cause a war!”
Kamilla went still. “What?”
Demetrius sighed heavily in frustration, running a hand through his curly hair. “Kamilla. Viktor just gave his word on an inter–kingdom marriage!”
The words flew right over her head. “What do you mean?”
“I mean that that girl isn’t from Onyx! And she’s not just from any Kingdom, she’s from Cassius! We’ve had three- hundred wars in the past, and two–hundred of them were with the Kingdom of Cassius! That’s why they came here so late to speak to Viktor! It was probably they’re last resort before running off together. I don’t understand… I
don’t get why he’d do that. Does he really have a fever?”
Kamilla didn’t answer. She was too busy staring at the floor.
One minute. She’d left him alone for one damn minute and Charming went and made a deal that would fuck
Viktor over.
Great.
