Chapter 23
Every time she saw him, memories would surge like the sea, reminding her of the pain she had endured. The scars deep within her heart, long since healed, would throb with an aching reminder.
She vowed never to return, even if it meant dying far from home.
There were only the two of them in the cramped balcony.Zelea didn’t want Dion to misunderstand,so she tugged at her dress, preparing to leave.
As she brushed past him,Luke grabbed her wrist. His tall figure enveloped her and the curtains shielded their figures from view.
He tilted his head, wanting to kiss her. But the woman in his arms avoided him,her stubborn gaze making him freeze.
For all these years, she had never shown such an expression.
Tears streaked down her face,a bitterness unlike any other.
“Do you really hate me this much? Even once, just give me one more chance. “Luke nearly kneeled at her feet, pleading humbly.
He had exhausted every possible method, not knowing how else to make her change her mind.
If she told him to die,he would gladly do so.
Zelea kept her eyes fixed on the figure outside the curtain, her voice distant. “The hurt you’ve caused me and those six years, cannot be erased. We’re already divorced. Our fate ended long ago. Why force it any longer?”
He knew this principle all too well. “But man can conquer fate. Are you really willing to give up on our relationship?”
Zelea didn’t answer. She just lowered her gaze, looking at the man kneeling before her, devoid of any dignity.
The roles of the two had completely reversed and this vast difference in status only made her find it laughable.
“My conquering fate is to never see you again.Leave some dignity for yourself.”
She drew back the curtain and stepped out with calm resolve, leaving the past behind.
In his palm, the jade pendant lay silently–something he could no longer bring himself to let go.
Behind the curtain was the dazzling glamour of high society, her future career and destiny.
Zelea felt the friendly gazes from the crowd, nodding in acknowledgment. She moved through the sea of people, playfully walking up behind Dion and gently patting his back.
At this moment, the person he loved was right in front of him and he felt an indescribable calm.
“Take me home.”
The jade pendant pressed painfully against Luke’s palm. After some contemplation, he still headed to the backstage of the venue.
If Zelea didn’t want it,then the twenty million dollars would be meaningless.
But the staff smiled and shook their heads.“Sorry, sir,no exhibit from the auction can be returned.”

He restrained his impulse to lash out and kicked the tire as he walked out.
He had been set up by that bastard Dion.
It was all deliberate. Dion was trying to trap him with money.
Unable to do anything else, Luke had no choice but to contact the domestic side and after a series of back–and–forth negotiations, ended up losing more than fourteen million.
Following the address provided by his secretary,he arrived at the apartment building where Zelea lived.
He stood there like a lovesick fool, gazing greedily at her silhouette. And he fell into a deep sleep.
He was abruptly awakened early in the morning.
“Who told you to stay outside my apartment? If you keep doing this, I’ll call the police!”
He rubbed his eyes in a daze. When he saw that it was Zelea, his face lit up with joy.Dazed,he stood up.
“Zelea, you misunderstood.I was just quietly watching you,l would never disturb you.”
But his words carried no weight.
The next evening, when he came back,he instinctively looked up,but that glass window remained dark, not lit as usual.
He came there for three consecutive days, until a new resident showed up to move in.
His heart raced in panic and he quickly followed them.
“Miss Nortam? She sold the apartment to me at a low price. She was in a hurry.”
