She knelt on the ground,her eyes wide with rage,her fingertips stained with blood,yet she felt lothing.
After the downfall of her family,her father fell into financial debt and,unable to bear it,committed
uicide. Her mother,unable to endure the humiliation from the debt collectors,followed suit.
Before leaving,her mother had handed her the family heirloom jade pendant.
But now,it had been shattered into pieces by Sovia.
Sovia!“Zelea’s face flushed red with anger,her trembling voice as if squeezed from he hroat.She used all her strength to pin Sovia against the wall.
‘his time,she raised her hand and slapped Sovia hard across the face,causing blood to spill
rom the corner of her mouth.
.uke hurried over at the sound and upon seeing the scene,his expression immediately turned cold.“Zelea!You have such guts! Did you only learn to fight and brawl in prison?”
‘elea was pushed away,her waist crashing against the back of a chair and as she fell,the broker ›ieces of the jade pendant stabbed into her palm.
This is my mother’s jade pendant,it’s her heirloom!”
A broken sob escaped from her throat and her shoulders heaved violently with each breath.
.uke,belatedly realizing what had happened,noticed his own face turning ugly,his fingers nstinctively tightening.
Mr.Gritorn,I just thought the jade pendant looked beautiful,but I didn’t hold onto it properly. eally didn’t know it was Zelea’s mother’s heirloom!“Sovia said,tearfully caressing her smal belly, “Now that I’m a mother too,how could I possibly do something so cruel on purpose?”
Zelea suddenly raised her eyes,ready to argue further,but Luke cut her off.
Zelea,why are you making such a scene!Sovia already said it wasn’t intentional,can’t you just let t go?It’s just a jade pendant,do you want to drive her to death over it?”
The disdain and impatience in his eyes were like sharp blades,piercing her until she could barely breathe.
Zelea’s eyes flickered with a touch of despair,her voice laced with self–mockery,“Luke,have you orgotten the words you once said?On the day my mother was buried,you promised you’d take good care of me on her behalf. You even went abroad to find someone to replace the golden thread in the jade pendant. You said you’d always stand by my side…”
With each word she spoke,Luke’s face grew paler.It was true that he had broken his vow.
‘But you killed Jose,didn’t you? How could a mere jade pendant make you this upset? Have you ever thought about how I’ve lived these six years?”
He showed no concern for her sorrow, bending down to inspect the wounds on Sovia’s face,before taking her back to the bedroom.
The entire night passed without him coming out.
Sovia’s cries reached her ears and Zelea’s gaze became hollow and numb. Her lips were sore

In the past,Luke would never ignore her feelings.If she felt even the slightest of pain,he would be so concerned that he would call for all the doctors in the hospital to treat her.
But now,he no longer participated in her life.
Whenever she cried and got hurt, he would turn a deaf ear to it.
Zelea cried until her head ached and then fell into a deep,muddled sleep. In her dream,she saw the young Jose and the irritating face of Sovia.
Her face felt so real and the warmth of the other person’s breath even brushed against her own.Unconsciously,her hand landed on the other person’s collarbone and her grip tightened without her realizing it.
The intense and vivid sensation left her dazed,a rushing wave of stimulation surging through her
soul.
Until suddenly,a strong force shoved her away.“Zelea,what are you doing? How dare you try to kil someone right in front of us!Do you want to end up back in prison?”
