Chapter 7
Neil knew me too well–once I made up my mind, nothing on Earth could drag me back.
Back in college, I had a boyfriend who cheated. I dumped him on the spot, and when he wouldn’t take no for an answer, I made sure someone taught him a lesson. He got the message and never looked my way again.
Neil should’ve known better. Even when we were dating, I told him straight up: cheat, and I’m gone. No warnings. No second chances. So now that I knew about Cecelia, he could forget about holding onto hope.
I’d made myself clear. Whatever love we’d had? Completely gone–buried under the weight of my hatred. Neil finally sighed, his voice breaking. “I can’t give you everything. If I do, my family’s ruined. SchmidtCorp will collapse. I can’t let that happen.”
“Then I’ll see you in court,” I said flatly.
I glanced at Maya, who gave me a quick nod. We were done here. No point dragging this out. I stood to leave.
Neil lunged, grabbing my hand. “Angela, was there never any love between us?”
I ripped my hand free and stared at him, silent. He got it–there was no coming back from
this.
I turned and walked out.
Later, Maya told me Neil just stood there, frozen, before crumbling to the ground and sobbing like his world had ended.
You reap what you sow.
“Angela, don’t let yourself go soft,” Maya warned.
I smirked. “Don’t worry. I’ve never felt this calm in my life.”

A week later, my parents returned. When they heard I was filing for divorce, they couldn’t help but sigh.
“Neil brought this on himself,” Dad muttered. “Now look–everyone in town is talking
about it! What a fool.”
“Don’t worry, Dad. Mom.” I smiled faintly. “I’m not going back. He betrayed me, and I don’t do leftovers. Let’s just chalk it up to a bad dream. I’m sorry you guys got dragged into
this mess.”
By then, my family was getting attacked online too. Whether the Schmidt family was directly behind it or not, trolls were clearly paid to smear us. But the more dirt they threw, the more receipts I dropped. It didn’t take long for them to realize reckless moves wouldn’t
work.
Mom hugged me tight, her voice soft and worried. “I’m not mad, sweetheart. I just hate how unfair this is. You gave so much, and now you’re stuck dealing with lawsuits.”
I knew it broke her heart, but I wasn’t backing down: I went public first, putting my side of the story online. Neil? He kept spiraling–fast.
A man who cheats, refuses to let go, and still tries to have it all? Yeah, no wonder he couldn’t show his face anywhere.
I sent him the prenatal reports and the evidence of the termination. Maybe that would finally make him see what he’d done.
Sure enough, three days later, he cracked. He called, his voice flat. “Angela, I’ll sign. Let’s just do this… for the sake of the child.”
The day we finalized the divorce, Rowina showed up too–of course she did.
“Angela, you’re ruthless,” she hissed. “You’ve taken everything. After being married to my son, don’t you feel even a little guilty?”

Before I could fire back, Neil stepped in, cutting her off. “Mom, stop. I did this. It’s all on
me.”
He moved in front of her, like he was shielding me from her words.
1 smirked and stepped closer. “You manipulated your own son, pushed him to betray his marriage, and hurt the woman who loved him. Did you ever think this might just be your karma?”
Rowina’s face turned tomato–red. “You-!”
