“Caroline, will you marry me?”
Lucas knelt on one knee, holding out a ring as he looked up at her.
Surrounded by her father and friends, Caroline gazed at the love in Lucas’s eyes and nodded.
Lucas slipped the ring onto her finger with barely–contained excitement.
As everyone clapped and congratulated them, he leaned in and whispered, “Can I kiss you now?”
Caroline nodded.
From a distance, Aiden watched the scene unfold hidden behind a tree.
After a moment’s hesitation, he approached once the crowd began to disperse.
Lucas immediately tensed, positioning himself protectively in front of Caroline.
“What do you want?” he demanded.
Facing Lucas’s hostility, Aiden didn’t argue and held out a small box to Caroline.
She didn’t take it.
Aiden opened it, revealing a key inside.
“I’ve set aside some assets for you at the bank. It’s what you’re entitled to from our divorce.”
Caroline looked at the key but still didn’t reach for it. “No, thank you. I don’t need it.”
Aiden didn’t insist and closed the box.
‘If you won’t take it, I’ll have my assistant donate it to a children’s charity in your name.”
Caroline didn’t object, which Aiden took as agreement.
‘Scenic Hill Cemetery, plot 176.”

The sentence came out of nowhere. Cersei blinked in confusion.
Aiden’s voice grew hoarse. “That’s where our little one is buried. If you ever want to visit… you can
see them there.”
The mention of their child moved Caroline. No matter what had happened, the child was innocent.
When she had terminated the pregnancy, it had been heartbreaking for her too.
After a long pause, Caroline finally said, “I will.”
Aiden looked at Caroline and Lucas in silence for a moment. “I hope you’ll be happy together.”
And then he walked away.
Caroline watched his figure disappear, unsure what to feel.
“Lucas, I want to visit the baby.”
The child had remained a thorn in her heart. In countless sleepless nights, she thought about the
baby.
“Of course. Let’s go see the child.”
Lucas didn’t mind Caroline’s past.
Besides, what happened between Aiden and Caroline had nothing to do with the innocent child.
Children were blameless–especially those who never had a chance to be born.
Lucas accompanied Caroline back to the New York to visit the cemetery.
They happened to encounter Aiden coming down from the hillside.
He just stepped aside wordlessly to let them pass.
As he and Caroline brushed shoulders, she heard him whisper. “I’m sorry.”
Caroline’s step faltered, words forming on her lips but never spoken.
She couldn’t forgive Aiden. She couldn’t forgive him on behalf of their child either.

Aiden didn’t expect forgiveness anyway.
The grave had no name, no photo–just toys and snacks left neatly in front of the headstone and wiped meticulously clean.
Cersei knelt down, tears sliding silently down her cheeks.
“I’m so sorry, baby. Mommy’s so sorry.”
Lucas had to turn away to overcome with emotion.
They stayed for a long time, until the cemetery was about to close before making their way down the
hill.
Lucas and Caroline married not long after.
One day after their wedding, Caroline was scrolling through news.

Her finger paused briefly before scrolling past.
It was all in the past now. The past was over.
All debts settled, all grudges resolved.
Caroline looked at Lucas sitting beside her, absorbed in watching football game.
She had found happiness and her peace at last.
