Elise found Aiden wasted at a bar.
“Aiden, let’s be together and go back to New York, okay?” she said softly, sitting beside him and
placing her hand on his shoulder.
Aiden looked up at her briefly, then shoved her hand away.
“Don’t fucking touch me. I’m going to find Caroline.”
Elise had already been humiliated by Caroline earlier–having two coffees thrown in her face and
being mocked. Hearing Aiden still pining for Caroline pushed her over the edge.
She threw some photos of Caroline and Lucas together onto the table.
“Aiden, wake the fuck up.”
“Caroline’s with someone else now. She doesn’t want you anymore. Come back with me, okay?”
“We can be like we used to be. Please, Aiden?”
Aiden grabbed the photos and tore them all to pieces, dropping them into a trash can.
“She’s just trying to make me jealous. If I keep apologizing, she’ll forgive me eventually.”
“Caroline loves me too much. She won’t leave me.”
Seeing Aiden like this drove Elise into a rage.
“She doesn’t want you anymore! How many times do I have to say it?”
“You’re sitting here drinking yourself stupid over her, and for what? Caroline wouldn’t even glance your way. Only I truly care about you. I’m the one who’s willing to stay by your side.”
“Just look at me, Aiden. Please.” Her eyes welled up.
“I was wrong to leave you before. I regret it. I made a mistake. Let’s start over.”
Aiden looked at Elise, seeming to sober up slightly. “You want me to be with you?”

Elise nodded eagerly. “Aiden, you always loved me most, right? Caroline’s gone. We can finally be
together.”
Aiden’s expression suddenly turned vicious.
Frightened by his look, Elise shrank back into the corner of the sofa.
“Elise, this is all YOUR fault. Caroline left me because of YOU!”
Aiden slapped her hard across the face.
Elise clutched her cheek, tears instantly filling her eyes. She couldn’t believe Aiden had hit her. Fury
surged. She stood up and slapped him right back.
Aiden grabbed her by the throat and pinned her to the sofa.
“It’s all your fault. All because of you.”
“Why did you send those messages to Caroline? Why did you deliberately say those things in front of
her?”
“I neglected Caroline because of you. She left me because of YOU.”
Aiden couldn’t understand why Caroline had suddenly left until his investigators uncovered what
Elise had done.
Thinking about Caroline being harassed by Elise while pregnant with his child made him want to
trangle the woman in front of him.
If it weren’t for Elise, he and Caroline wouldn’t have divorced. Their little one would have been born
safely. He, Caroline, and their little one would have been the happiest family.
Elise struggled desperately until she felt herself nearly suffocating before Aiden finally released her.
“You can’t die that easily. You need to pay for what you did to Caroline and our little one.”
Looking at the clearly unhinged Aiden, Elise fired back. “You’re the one who hurt Caroline the most,
Aiden.”
“You’re the one who kept chasing her while you were still messing around with me. Yes, I sent her those messages. But did I make anything up?”

“Wasn’t everything I told her true? Things you actually did? If you hadn’t done those things, how could I have used them to hurt her?”
“You’re the worst offender here. YOU killed your own child. YOU pushed Caroline into another man’s
arms.”
Aiden lunged at her again, grabbing her throat.
“Shut up! It’s all you. All YOUR fault.”
“I did nothing wrong. It was all because of you.”
Struggling to breathe, Elise choked out. “You never loved Caroline. YOU ruined her.”
“That’s a lie. How could I not love her?”
