Chapter 8
The villa once again became a place with nothing familiar.
No matter what Chris tried, nothing could spark any reaction from Willette.
After some thought, he decided to call over an old friend, someone both he and Willette used to know well.
But even then, Willette didn’t react. Not even a flicker of recognition. 2
The friend, confused, gave up and simply started chatting with Chris like old times.
“Congrats, man. You’re gonna be a dad soon.”
Chris blinked, puzzled. He hadn’t told anyone about Lillian being pregnant.
“How do you know that?”
“Didn’t Lillian get pregnant ages ago? Why else would you rush the wedding?”
The friend spoke casually, not thinking much of it.
Turned out, that just a month before the wedding, he’d been sick and ended up in the hospi- tal.
While there, he happened to see Lillian coming out of the OB/GYN wing, holding an ultra- sound printout.
Chris stiffened. “You’re serious?”
The sky felt like it was collapsing around him. Had he been used this entire time? Had he been the one to pick up the pieces for someone else?
Still, to be sure, Chris’s hand trembled as he pulled out his phone and called Lillian.
“Lillian, how about I come with you to your next prenatal checkup?”

On the other end. Lillian sounded flustered. “No, it’s fine, Chris. Really. You should stay and take care of Willette. I can manage on my own.”
Chris heard the panic in her voice, and in that moment, everything became clear.
He couldn’t even bring himself to look at Willette.
He was terrified. Terrified that facing her would break him completely.
This was the woman he had sacrificed Willette for?
“Chris, I told you I didn’t need you to come. Why are you still picking me up?”
Lillian sat nervously in the passenger seat, trying to sound light.
But next to her, Chris wore a tight, cold smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
“How could I possibly leave you alone, Lillian?”
Seeing the look on Chris’s face, Lillian felt a flicker of fear, but she still forced a smile.
“Chris, you’re so good to me.”
Chris’s eyes darkened. His voice dropped low and raspy.
“So this is what I get for being good to you? You let me raise someone else’s bastard?”
The color drained from Lillian’s face. She looked shaken, horrified.
She had no idea how Chris had found out the truth. “Chris, please, let me ex—”
Before she could finish her sentence, everything spun. Her vision went black, and she passed
out.
When Lillian opened her eyes again, all she saw was an endless green, thick, untouched jun- gle.
That’s when the fear truly hit her.
She started shaking. Her voice trembled as she called out, just like she had three months ago.

But this time, no one answered her. Only the distant roar of the savage echoed back, and the sound of heavy footsteps slowly drew closer.
She was terrified.
She tried to run.
But then she realized that her legs were numb.
She couldn’t feel a thing, No matter how hard she tried, her body wouldn’t move.
The massive savage emerged from the trees, step by step, closing in.
Lillian backed away helplessly, crawling backward in the dirt, sobbing.
“Chris! I’m sorry! I really know I was wrong! Please let me go back!”
But no one came. No one answered her cries.
And then, deep in the jungle, Lillian’s scream tore through the silence.
“Ahhh!”
a
Chris watched everything unfold through a drone feed, holding me gently in his arms as I slept.
He leaned close, whispering against my ear like a lover, “Willette… everyone who ever hurt you… I’ll make sure they pay.”
Chris was getting married again.
This time, the bride wasn’t Lillian. It was me.
At the wedding ceremony, just as he was about to slip the ring onto my finger, I came back,
to my senses.
I picked up the ring in his hand, and without thinking, I threw it.
It clinked sharply as it hit the floor. Right after came Chris’s voice, trembling with emotion,

disbelief flooding every word.
“Willette… you’re back? You’re really back?”
I nodded slowly.
Chris started laughing and crying all at once, his voice cracked with a hint of hurt.

“Willette, why’d you throw our wedding ring? Weren’t you the one who always wanted to marry me?”
It was true.
For eight years, I wanted nothing more than to marry Chris. To go from his bodyguard, his secretary, his lover… to his rightful wife.
But now, I didn’t want it anymore.
Even without Lillian, I never wanted to relive those two months of hell..
I didn’t answer him. I just smiled.
Then I spun my wheelchair and rolled quickly down from the stage.
As confused guests watched, I reached for the table, grabbed a steak knife, and drove it straight into my chest.
The pain stole my breath, but nothing hurt more than what I’d already been through.
“Willette! Somebody call an ambulance!”
Chris’s eyes turned red as he screamed in panic, disbelief written all over his face.
But I’d been a mercenary. I knew exactly where to stab, where it would be quick.
There wasn’t time to save me, and that was the point.
This was how I wanted to tell Chris that I hated him.
The end.
