Chapter 5
I turned my head toward the voice, it was Chris.
His eyes were red, wide with disbelief as he stared at me.
But in his arms, Lillian wore a look of smug satisfaction.
“Chris, do you think Willette’s actually into that savage now? Her taste is… seriously twist- ed.”
Chris ignored her. He started shouting at the bodyguards outside.
“Where the hell are the bodyguards?! Get in here! Kill that thing!”
a
But the savage, interrupted mid–pleasure by all the yelling, was not happy.
It roared in fury and began attacking everyone in sight.
Chris had brought a lot of strong, and well–trained men, all at least 180cm tall. But even with more than a dozen of them, the fight was brutal.
The savage was almost too much for them to handle.
Only when they all rushed it at once were they barely able to restrain it.
And even then, it took a razor–sharp blade just to cut through its skin.
They hacked at its neck for what felt like forever. It wasn’t until an hour later that the giant beast’s head finally hit the ground.
Only then did Chris realize that this creature wasn’t nearly as easy to kill as he’d thought.
He couldn’t even imagine what Willette must’ve gone through facing something like that on her own.
But Lillian, standing beside him, still couldn’t help complaining.

“Willette, why didn’t you kill it sooner? Thank God it’s dead now. What if it had scared the baby? He’s the Palmer family’s firstborn, you know…”
But I didn’t respond.
The moment I saw the beast’s head fall to the ground, my eyes lit up.
Chris looked like he was about to yell at me, but what I did next left him speechless.
I lunged forward, grabbed a chunk of the raw deer meat the savage had brought back, and started stuffing it into my mouth.
That thing had never let me eat my fill. Even if it was a mindless creature, it was smart enough to know that if I had energy, I might run.
So it always gave me just enough to stay alive. A bite here, a scrap there.
But now,
I was devouring it. Finally full. I didn’t care how anyone was looking at me.
“Willette…”
“Ewe! Willette’s eating raw meat! God, that’s disgusting! I’m gonna throw up. Chris, get me out of here…”
But one of the nearby bodyguards spoke up carefully.
“Mr. Palmer… I don’t think Ms. Allison has said a single word since we got here. Could she have… already been turned?”
That one sentence made Chris snap. He rushed forward and slapped the deer meat out of my mouth.
He opened his mouth like he wanted to say something, but in the end, nothing came out.
And I panicked the moment the meat hit the dirt.
I scrambled to grab it again, and without caring about the dust or filth on it, I shoved it right back into my mouth, chewing greedily.
In my broken state, I couldn’t be sure anymore. Without the savage around, with my legs shattered and my body wrecked, would I ever get another real meal?

Chapter 5
Chris couldn’t hold it in anymore. He pulled me into his arms and cradled my head.
His voice shook. “Willette… it’s okay now. Come back with us. We’ll get you help.”
His tears fell one after another, landing cold against my skin.
I shivered and curled in on myself.

The moment the plane landed back home, Chris rushed to have Willette admitted to his fami- ly hospital for full treatment and evaluation.
Inside the hospital, Chris watched helplessly as Willette–sensing the presence of unfamiliar male staff–began to struggle, trying to pull off the pants he’d just put on her.
For the first time, Chris felt something bitter rise in his throat, choking him. He couldn’t say a word.
He regretted it all. Regretted leaving Willette in that jungle.
She used to be so proud. So strong. Now… she was a shell of who she’d been. A ghost.
Tears welled in his eyes as he scrolled through Willette’s phone.
There, in her call log, she’d called him eight times.
Eight calls, and he hadn’t answered a single one.
He didn’t want to imagine how hopeless she must have felt in those moments.
Why hadn’t he just sent one damn plane?
By the afternoon, the results finally came back. The attending physician looked serious as he handed Chris the report.
“Mr. Palmer, these are Ms. Allison’s test results.”
