She shifted the subject. “There’s a banquet at the palace tonight, and my brother will be going too. Go with him, and make sure he stays safe.”
Garbisch was straightforward and honest, but with the recent troubles he had faced, Jessica was worried about him going out alone.

That night, Jessica was alone. As the evening settled in, she made her way to visit General Algernon.
“General Algernon’s health is worsening. While the medicine is keeping him alive, his condition isn’t improving,” Wiley said.
Wiley Craig, the butler who had served General Algernon for many years, had focused on managing the Delight Hall at Jessica’s request, rarely showing up anywhere else in the mansion.
