He was positive that he could reach the blanket she’d made. It wasn’t too far away, and he had been able to move around enough this morning to move the pillow behind him

It may have forced him to lose his breath and pushed his heart rate through the roof, but he’d been able to do it. How hard could leaning over a little actually be

Incredibly hard, it would seem, because when he’d thrown off the original blanket and leaned out across the air, his weight shifted unexpectedly, and he fell face first onto the floor. He felt his eyebrow split open just before a gush of warmth flooded his right eye

He was in the process of trying to push his upper body off the floor when he heard the doors open. He tried to roll away from view but only managed to turn to his side and face the window

When he’d turned to look at the door, he’d seen that it was Bea, and he couldn’t face her right now. Not after he’d insulted her hard work. When he saw the cover in her arms earlier, he simply assumed it was left over from when he’d had his last servant and they’d left it in the extra room

It never crossed his mind that it was something she’d made with her own hands. He was horrified at his comment to her. The blanket was frilly, and it really was something he’d never naturally use on his own, but he’d never have said such things to her had he known. No wonder she looked so sad

He felt her hands on him then, rolling him over, and in angry whispers, she all but yelled his name. Dax!”

Her little fingers dug into his shoulder, and her face came into view. What happened? Why are you on the floor?”

He couldn’t bring himself to answer her. All he could do was heavy breathe as she pulled him up to sitting and began dabbing at the wound above his eye

He looked over, nervous, but noticed that Bea had closed the door. Smart woman. His respect for her seemed to grow every moment he spent time with her. No matter how many times he told himself that she was no more than a slave. Yet here she was, once again helping him. Concerned for him

He’d been incredibly rude earlier, and the first chance she got, she proved her loyalty and concern. The moment she left his room, he went into a personal tirade on himself. Calling himself all of the offensive names he had learned over years of debauchery

She was breathing heavier too, her face so close to his own as she tried to heft him up. Why. Are. You. On. The. Floor. She said her sentence, tugging with each word. She was trying to move him closer to the bed

top.How humiliating. A tiny female was going to put him back to bed, and although she was taller than most human women, she was still just a slip of a girl to him. I was trying to reach-He didn’t want to continue, but she wouldn’t have it

What? You were what?!Her voice was strained, and he thought he heard some anger in her tone

The blanket.Almost immediately, her grip loosened, and he fell back to the floor, his elbows slamming against

the ground hard

Oh no! I’m so sorry! She was once again trying to pull him back up to a proper position. What about the blanket? He heard the hurt in her tone, but he also heard a glimmer of hope. I already know that you don’t like

  1. it. What does you being on the floor have to do with my blanket?”

He slumped in on himself. How disgraceful. He’d spent his life doing as he wanted, with whoever he wanted. He’d never felt small or like he had to do anything other than what he wanted

That was until Bea came into his world. Since then, it was like he couldn’t get back to that person. He floundered

and said the wrong thing every time
