Chapter 6.
On our first night as a married couple, I sat at the vanity removing my makeup. In the mirror, I could see Dominic standing hesitantly in the bedroom doorway, nervously fiddling with his sleeve
cuff.
“Dominic,” I turned around, “you’ve been distracted since the wedding ended. What’s wrong?”
He took a deep breath, as if gathering courage. “Miss Sullivan, I know you’ve always had feelings for
Xavier. You married me just to spite him, right?”
I raised an eyebrow, studying him.
“Even though I’ve enjoyed every moment with you,” he continued, “but… if you two are just having a
fight, it would be better to clear things up sooner rather than later.”
Withy that, he began packing his bag. “I’ll head back to the countryside tomorrow. We haven’t filed
the marriage certificate anyway.”
“Pfft,” I couldn’t help but laugh, rising to stand before him, gently pressing my finger to his lips.
“Dominic,” I gazed into his startled eyes, “I married you because I genuinely wanted to.”
His pupils dilated, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed hard. “But… all those rumors about
me…”
“I’ve verified everything,” I pulled him to sit beside me on the bed. “That mining project in the northwest–you closed it in just three months. The port dispute in the south–you resolved that too. As for those supposed ‘scandals‘…”
I smiled lightly. “Just business entertainment, nothing more.”
Dominic’s eyes gradually brightened, like stars igniting in the night sky. He excitedly gripped my hands. “Speaking of the northwest, I actually have a new idea! That abandoned industrial zone could be transformed into…”
Watching him animatedly explain his business plans, my heart melted completely.
As he warmed to his subject, he loosened his tie and rolled up his sleeves, revealing his toned forearms. The way he sketched and jotted notes was utterly captivating.

Before I knew it, it was two in the morning, and I was drowsily leaning against his shoulder.
Through my haze, I felt him gently lift me up and carefully place me on the bed.
“Sleep well, Miss Sullivan,” he placed a soft kiss on my forehead.
“Tomorrow, I’ll prove to you that choosing me was the best decision you’ve ever made.”
