Chapter 6
At seven that evening, I pulled my Maybach smoothly through the gates of the Hampton family
estate.
The courtyard blazed with light, echoing with faint laughter.
Ryker’s parents and several relatives stood at the entrance, greeting guests.
Surprise flickered across their faces when they saw me step out of the car alone.
“Mila, dear! Where’s Ryker?” the elder Mrs. Hampton asked, confused.
Their surprise was understandable. In five years of marriage, this was the first time we hadn’t arrived together.
“He said he’ll be here shortly,” I replied smoothly.
They warmly welcomed me inside, where the butler personally served me a cup of coffee.
I sat on the sofa, accepting the cup with perfect composure, taking a delicate sip.
Half an hour later, the main doors opened again as Ryker finally made his fashionably late entrance.
What no one expected was Brianna trailing behind him.
The elder Mr. Hampton immediately recognized the impropriety, his expression darkening with unmistakable anger.
“Ryker, this is a family dinner. Why have you brought an outsider?”
“Dad, Brianna is my Chief Executive Assistant. We just finished some business, so I brought her along.”
“This is a FAMILY gathering. How dare you mix it with company business?” the elder Mr. Hampton’s voice rose sharply. “Let her leave!”
Brianna’s face fell as she shot Ryker a wounded look.
The tactic clearly worked on him, as he immediately jumped to her defense:

“Dad, Brianna is my right hand. She’s been so busy today she hasn’t even eaten. Just let her stay.”
Witnessing his son’s complete lack of boundaries, the elder Mr. Hampton grew more furious:
“No matter how busy Mila gets, has she ever brought her assistant to family functions? This is a
family dinner, not a corporate event!”
“Butler! Show her out!” the elder Mr. Hampton commanded.
The butler hesitated, caught in the crossfire of family tension, unsure how to proceed.
Behind Ryker, Brianna kept glancing in my direction, her lips curved in a barely concealed smirk of
challenge.
This farce had exhausted my patience.
“No need,” I interrupted coldly.
I reached into my jacket’s inner pocket, extracted a document, and laid it open before everyone.
“This is actually why I came tonight.”
When they saw the bold words “DIVORCE AGREEMENT” on the cover, the room fell into stunned
silence.
Ryker’s face drained of color. His briefcase slipped from his grip, hitting the floor with a dull thud.
His voice quavered as he demanded: “Mila, you’re divorcing me? Have you completely lost your
mind?”
My gaze shifted from Ryker to Brianna, then back to him:
“Actually, I’ve never been more clear–headed in my life.”
Ryker’s parents quickly stepped forward, attempting to mediate:
“Mila, sweetheart, whatever misunderstanding this is, let’s talk it through. You can’t make decisions
like this in the heat of emotion.”
“There’s nothing left to discuss. My decision is final.”
“I won’t sign this!” Ryker suddenly shouted, his eyes reddening. “You’re divorcing me just because !

made Brianna my chief assistant?”
“Ryker, you know damn well what this is about,” I stared directly into his eyes, each word like a
knife. “I warned you. I gave you chances.”
“I never give second chances to anyone. I made an exception for you, and you spat in my face.”
“Since you chose to humiliate me for some homewrecker, don’t expect me to play nice.”
The room erupted in shocked whispers. Ryker stood frozen, refusing to sign.
The elder Mrs. Hampton grabbed my arm, her voice pleading:
“Mila, please calm down. We can work through this together. Don’t make rash decisions.”
I politely but firmly pulled away:
“I respect you, Mrs. Hampton, but my decision is final. There’s no room for negotiation.”
“Ryker, you can refuse to sign if you want. I’ll see you in court.”
With that, I turned and strode out, leaving chaos in my wake.
