Chapter 4
Early the next morning, Ryker’s phone rang.
Brianna’s name flashed across the screen.
He hesitated for a moment before answering.
Her sobbing voice poured through the speaker, barely coherent between gasps.
‘Mr. Hampton, I–I don’t know what to do anymore…”
‘Stop crying and take a breath. Tell me what happened,” Ryker frowned, his voice gentle.
‘I’m being cyberbullied! My photos are everywhere online! People are calling me a homewrecker,
saying I seduced a married man…”
‘I’m terrified! I can’t even leave my apartment…oh God…” Brianna’s voice trembled with panic and helplessness, her sobs growing louder.
Ryker’s expression darkened as he shot me a fiery glare.
‘Stay put and don’t go anywhere. I’ll handle this immediately.”
News of Brianna crossing me had already spread throughout our business circles.
Even without my direct orders, our business partners would do things like this to curry favor with
- me.
I’d checked the online situation this morning–it wasn’t nearly as bad as she was making it sound.
But I had to hand it to her–she was masterfully playing the damsel in distress card, successfully triggering Ryker’s protective instincts.
The moment he hung up, Ryker’s rage exploded.
He slammed his phone onto the table and turned to me, eyes blazing.
“What the fuck are you trying to accomplish here, Mila?”

Chapter 4
“Brianna’s already left the company, already distanced herself from us–why are you still coming
after her?”
“When did you become this vindictive? Throwing around your CEO’s wife title like it gives you the right to destroy people’s lives!”
I slammed my bowl down on the table, refusing to back down an inch.
“For the last goddamn time, Ryker, I didn’t do shit.”
“Everyone in the company knows she pissed you off! Who else would do this except you?” he shot
back.
“Are you fucking kidding me? In all these years, when have I ever denied something I actually did? You’re repeatedly questioning me–your wife–over some random intern. She’s got you completely dick–whipped!”
Ryker’s face turned stone–cold as he stormed out, slamming the door hard enough to rattle the walls.
I calmly wiped the corner of my mouth, watching his retreating figure with undisguised disappointment.
That afternoon, while scrolling through social media, I noticed something strange.
The flood of negative posts about Brianna had completely vanished, replaced by an official statement from Hampton Industries.
The statement praised Brianna’s exceptional abilities, emphasizing she had earned her position through merit alone.
It declared that Hampton Industries would not tolerate malicious rumors against its employees and would pursue legal action against false online allegations.
My phone lit up with a new message from Josh:
“Ms. Sullivan, Mr. Hampton not only had Legal issue that statement, but he also publicly announced that Brianna will return to the company effective immediately as his Chief Executive Assistant. He warned that anyone spreading rumors or gossip would be fired on the spot!”
“The whole company is buzzing that there’s something special between Mr. Hampton and Brianna.”
Josh’s words felt like a punch to the gut.

He followed up with a screenshot.
It was Brianna’s another social media post:
“The storms of corporate life have passed! True gold fears no fire–my hard work hasn’t been in
vain! Grateful for Mr. Hampton’s recognition of my abilities!”
“I’ll do my best to support Mr. Hampton going forward and won’t disappoint this trust!”
The attached image showed her new appointment letter–reinstated as Chief Executive Assistant to
the CEO of Hampton Industries, with a salary matching a Vice President’s.
I stared at her nauseating post, gripping my phone so tightly my knuckles turned white.
Not long after, Ryker came home to retrieve some documents, not even sparing me a glance.
He headed straight upstairs to his study, grabbed what he needed, and turned to leave.
I tapped my fingers against the coffee table and spoke up.
“What exactly do you think you’re doing, Ryker?”
He stopped, turning to me with cold eyes.
“Brianna is nothing but a hardworking employee who was targeted for no reason, driven from the company, and subjected to cyberbullying–all because of you.”
“I’m simply rectifying your mistake. This is what Brianna deserves.”
“And if I insist you fire her?” I challenged.
“Then fucking try me! All this time I’ve been accommodating you out of respect for my wife, letting you abuse your power to hurt others.”
“I’m done with your bullshit. I won’t sacrifice Brianna, and I won’t let you run wild anymore!”
Ryker spun around and left, the sound of the door slamming echoing throughout our mansion.
In that moment, my last shred of faith in him died.
Our five–year marriage–built on mutual respect and understanding–was fracturing because of a woman who’d been in our lives for barely two weeks.

I sat on the sofa, rage and disappointment churning inside me.
The glass in my hand shattered under my grip, blood trickling from my palm. I forced myself to stay
calm.
Since he was determined to stand with Brianna, he’d learn just how merciless I could be.
Ryker, you will pay for your choices today!
