Chapter 11
After shopping with my friends at noon, I passed by Liam’s
and had the driver take me there to pick him up from
company
work.
To my surprise, I saw Lola standing at the entrance of the building, holding something in her hands, as if waiting for
someone.
I sat in the car, quietly watching to see what drama she was about to perform.
Before long, Liam came out with his assistant following behind.
Lola quickly fixed her hair, adjusted her expression, and hurried over to him.
She said, “Mr. Grant, could I trouble you for just a minute?”
She pulled out a pink lunch box from her bag.
She said, “I made this myself. I hope you can forgive Alan and me for our reckless behavior last time. There’s no other meaning behind it.”
It was peak lunch hour when employees were streaming out to eat, so Lola’s actions naturally drew quite a crowd of onlookers.
After all, who would deliver food in such a setting except
someone with a special relationship with the boss?
Liam didn’t even glance at her and said coldly, “Not needed.”
His assistant immediately stepped in to block her, saying, “Miss, please show some self-respect. Our CEO is about to have lunch with his wife. Please don’t do anything that might cause misunderstandings.”
People around began whispering among themselves.
Lola immediately put on her pitiful act, saying, “Why are you thinking of me that way? I didn’t mean anything like that at all.”
Her usual trick was playing the victim, so that even when she did something wrong, others would give her some face out of consideration for the setting.
But this tactic was completely ineffective with Liam.
I leisurely got out of the car and deliberately called out loudly, “Darling.”
Everyone’s attention immediately turned to me.
“So that’s the CEO’s wife! She’s so beautiful!”
“They’re absolutely perfect for each other!”
Liam naturally extended his hand toward me, his previously
cold expression instantly warming with a smile, completely different from moments before.
Seeing this, Lola practically fled in panic.
But she left in such a rush that she wasn’t watching her step and collided with a delivery rider speeding by.
Lola wasn’t hurt, but the bag she was carrying fell to the ground, spilling food everywhere.
With a loud clang, the lunch box opened, revealing two pieces of bacon cut into heart shapes that rolled out, along with a small card with her contact information.
Now everyone knew her true intentions.
Someone couldn’t help but laugh out loud: “Heart-shaped bacon? Who gave her the nerve to do that?”
Lola was furious and took it out on the delivery rider: “How do you ride your bike?”
The delivery rider shot back: “Miss, I was riding straight just fine. You’re the one who suddenly rushed out. How is that my fault?”
I walked away with my arm linked through Liam’s.
I was tired of watching this same old performance, yet she was still using these same tactics.
