My Arranged 5

Chapter 5

The next morning, when Liam got dressed and left for work, I was still fast asleep.

I hadn’t fallen asleep until the early hours of the morning, and now I was so exhausted I could barely open my eyes.

He said, “I’m heading to work.”

I mumbled a response and vaguely felt him plant a gentle kiss on my forehead.

I slept straight through until noon.

Amazingly, I saw a follow-up news report about Alan’s family

reunion on TV.

Alan looked miserable throughout, wearing an expression of complete despair.

But the reporter provided commentary: “We can see from Mr. Ellis’s expression that he’s deeply moved.”

Alan had never experienced this kind of circus before and probably still hadn’t recovered from the shock.

His biological parents lived in the countryside in a self-built three-story house, surrounded by generally low-rise buildings.

There was a fence around the front yard where they kept about a dozen chickens.

Alan had never been to a place like this in his entire life.

Dressed head to toe in designer brands, he stood in stark contrast to his surroundings.

He frowned at the camera and said, “Stop filming.”

But his biological father, Tate Grant, said, “Are you stupid? We get paid for interviews.”

The camera panned to Lola standing nearby, whose smile looked more painful than crying.

Alan took her hand and said earnestly to the camera, “This is my son’s girlfriend. She’s beautiful and doesn’t mind that our family has no house or car. She’s really a good girl.”

Alan corrected him: “Lola doesn’t care about those things, but I have a house, a car, and savings. I’d never let her suffer even a little.”

Only then did Lola show a hint of genuine smile: “I like him for who he is. His family situation has nothing to do with me.”

At this point, the program’s narrator chimed in, describing Alan as “young and successful in his career” and Lola as “a rare girl who isn’t materialistic.”

Sarah and I couldn’t help but laugh at that.

The truth was, Alan’s car, house, and all those bank cards he used daily belonged to the Ellis family.

However, Sarah and Marcus had decided that except for the Lamborghini he was currently driving, which they hadn’t had time to reclaim yet, all other properties, assets, and subsidiary management rights would be revoked.

Sarah laughed with relief: “Thank goodness he’s not my biological son, or I’d have to kick him out of the house. After all these years of investing so much time and money in him, and this is how disappointing he turns out to be.”
