Chapter 19
“Wow, what a beautiful silhouette!”
Stella had never seen Clarissa wear this kind of long dress, and even with a hundred brains, she wouldn’t have connected the woman appearing in Theodore’s home to Clarissa.
Now Stella couldn’t help but exclaim, imagining so much from just one picture: “Just from the back view, you can tell she must be a beauty. That’s how it should be–good–looking people should be with good–looking people. I can’t even imagine how blissful it must be to wake up every morning and see
that face.”
”
“Am I right? I was just saying, how could someone of our boss’s status and position not have a
woman by his side? And just as I said it, he posted about his hidden sweetheart. How incredible.”
Stella was speaking so enthusiastically that Clarissa didn’t have the heart to interrupt her.
“But it’s a bit strange,” Stella’s tone became thoughtful and sank a bit, “Our boss’s account hardly posts a single Instagram update all year round, so why suddenly post such big news?”
Clarissa avoided her gaze and said absent–mindedly, “I don’t know either. Being a boss, maybe he
has a lot of concerns.”
In any case, once Theodore released this news, it was as if an earthquake had hit both inside and
outside the company.
Clarissa saw the dense likes and congratulatory messages quickly filling up his post.
In a moment of impulse, she also quietly gave him a like.
The next day when Clarissa went to work, it seemed like wherever she went, she could hear gossip
about “the boss’s woman.”

Chapter 19
In the morning tea room, several young employees were chatting enthusiastically.
“Guess, is the woman the boss brought home his girlfriend, fiancée, or wife?”
Someone’s voice was as soft as a mosquito’s hum: “Couldn’t it just be… a one–night stand he simply brought home to sleep with?”
“You know what, that’s really not possible!”
“Don’t tarnish our boss’s reputation. Does our boss seem like someone who would engage in casual relationships?”
“Right, do you think the boss is the type to bring a one–night stand home and then ‘show off on Instagram?”
“Looking at that photo, it feels like his love is about to overflow from the screen. He must be super in love!”

Perhaps because she hadn’t slept well the night before, Clarissa’s head felt foggy. She walked over with feigned calmness, acting as if she hadn’t heard anything, made herself a cup of coffee, and then
returned to her workstation.
Clarissa thought that drinking coffee would help clear her mind, and she would feel better after a while, but unexpectedly, the situation worsened in the afternoon.
She touched her burning forehead–she definitely had a fever.
“Clarissa.”
Just then, Manager Huston walked to her desk, slightly raising his chin to indicate to her, “There’s a gathering tonight, you’re coming too.”
Clarissa: “What gathering?”
“Dinner with the people from the Middle Bay project.”
Huston said: “This is an opportunity for you. Look around, who else in this company gets such a

good chance? You should really cherish it.”
Clarissa parted her lips, wanting to say something, but swallowed her words and just nodded,
“Okay.”
After work, Clarissa followed Huston and several company executives to the dinner venue.
It was a very famous Asian restaurant in Los Angeles.
They left early, but the city’s elevated highway was congested, and they ended up arriving late.
As soon as they entered the private room, Huston apologetically smiled: “Sorry to keep everyone waiting! The traffic was terrible. That’s what happens when we live in the most bustling city in Los Angeles!”
Standing behind him, Clarissa glanced at the people at the dinner.
A group of well–dressed, glamorous people in suits, all bigwigs with status and reputation in Los Angeles, along with several figures who frequently appeared on federal evening news.
And Clarissa appeared to be the youngest among them, so young that… she seemed somewhat out of place.
Huston introduced the people from both sides of the project, with Clarissa being the last one he introduced: “This is Clarissa, mainly responsible for project coordination.”
After saying this, Huston gave her a meaningful look: “Quickly pour drinks for everyone. You’re young, and you’ll need everyone’s guidance in your future work.”
