“We were going to get the marriage certificate anyway, so the timing doesn’t really matter. It happened to be convenient that day, so we went ahead with it.”
Theodore came back to his senses, suppressing the stirring in his heart, and said calmly.
Clarissa thought that made sense; he was indeed very busy.
“Then I’ll follow your arrangements,” Clarissa replied.
She increasingly felt that she understood the situation. Theodore not only helped her escape her
aunt’s pressure, but also promised to give her an apartment in Los Angeles after their divorce.
Plus… she really had no expectations for love anymore, so she thought this contractual marriage, this
transaction, wasn’t a bad deal for her. It helped solve many of her troubles and also gave her quite a
few benefits.
After the meal, Theodore left for his business trip to Boston.
Clarissa stayed in the spacious house but didn’t wander around. With this rare stretch of free time,
she spent the entire afternoon sitting on the living room sofa, reading books and watching movies.
In the evening, the housekeeper came to prepare dinner. “Good evening, Mrs. Ashford.”
Clarissa hesitated for three seconds but eventually accepted the title.
She politely instructed: “It’s just me for dinner tonight, so please feel free to prepare less food.”
“Certainly.”
Meanwhile, at the other end.
On the flight from Los Angeles to Boston, in first class, a flight attendant refilled a cup of hot tea for the man sitting by the window.

Chapter 14
Although she had seen many high–quality social elites before, the man’s flawless handsome face paired with his distinguished and cold demeanor still made her steal several glances.
His face was truly addictive to look at, to the point where it became… difficult to look away.
However, the man’s eyes seemed to be fixed on his phone screen, not sparing even a glance for
others.
The flight attendant was curious and carefully peeked at his phone…
She saw that on his phone was a photo.
In the picture, a woman wearing a cream–colored silk pajama was sitting on a sofa, holding a book,
reading intently.
nt attendant’s angle, she couldn’t clearly see the woman’s entire face, but just from her
could tell it was a very elegant and beautiful woman.
The flight attendant couldn’t help but stretch her neck a bit more, but still couldn’t see clearly.
Just then, the man glanced sideways and asked in a low voice: “Can you see it clearly?”
The flight attendant panicked, thinking she had been too offensive and had displeased him. Cold sweat spread down her back.
As she was nervously trying to think of something to say, she saw the man’s well–defined, pale, slender hand holding the phone, bringing it closer to her eyes.
He calmly raised his eyelids, his tone could be described as gentle: “Beautiful, isn’t she? This is my
wife.”
The flight attendant, still feeling the lingering fear, took a deep breath and quickly said: “Beautiful,
sir! Your wife is very beautiful!”
The words that came out of her mouth were not a lie.
Theodore unhurriedly put his phone away and continued to stare at the screen.
The flight from Los Angeles to Boston takes two hours.

Chapter 14
At nine o’clock in the evening, Theodore landed at Boston Airport.
After getting off the plane, he made a call to Clarissa, “I’ve arrived and am now on my way to the
hotel.”
Clarissa, who was lying in bed, immediately sat up, “So, Mr. Ashford… do you have something to
instruct me?”
Clarissa had always cast Theodore in the role of her boss and couldn’t change that right away, assuming he was contacting her late at night also because of work matters.
Theodore, seeing her conditioned response, smiled faintly, his voice carrying a hint of laziness: “You misunderstand. I’m just reporting my schedule to Mrs. Ashford.”
Reporting? Those words somehow seemed a bit beyond boundaries?
