Chapter 13
Clarissa clutched her phone, suddenly feeling a bit guilty.
After all, her past with Brady had… become something she was most ashamed of now.
Theodore didn’t ask any questions, but just said to her: “Add my other number. For personal matters in daily life, you can contact that number.”
Clarissa quickly entered the phone number and added the contact.
Forty minutes later, Clarissa followed Theodore to his residence.
Theodore stood at the entrance, bending down to get her a pair of white, fluffy women’s slippers, which fit perfectly and were very comfortable.
“If there’s anything you’re not satisfied with or don’t like here, we can change it.”
Clarissa automatically responded: “It’s very nice here. I like it a lot.”
The house was decorated in a high–end minimalist style, giving off an expensive feel that blended
well with his character.
Clarissa stood in front of the floor–to–ceiling windows that covered an entire wall in the living room, looking at the river view, finding it pleasing to the eye.
Theodore stood behind her, watching her silhouette.
Dressed in a silk gown with a creamy white shawl draped over it, outlining her slender figure, her back view alone was effortlessly beautiful.
“You probably didn’t sleep much last night. Go take a nap. I’ll call you when lunch is ready.”
Hearing Theodore’s voice, Clarissa came back to her senses and nodded: “Okay.”

She had stayed up late last night and gotten up early today, so she was indeed a bit tired.
“Then, my room…”
Theodore raised his hand and pointed.
Clarissa walked over, opened the door, then turned and gently closed it behind her.
She would really just treat him like a roommate.
Clarissa lay on the soft, comfortable bed, initially worried that she wouldn’t be able to sleep well in an unfamiliar place, but she fell asleep quickly.
By the time she woke up, it was already two in the afternoon.
After her rest, Clarissa walked out of the room and faintly smelled the aroma of food.
She arrived at the dining room just in time to see the man dressed in a shirt and trousers, wearing a black apron, carrying a bowl of soup from the kitchen.
“Awake?” Theodore placed the bowl of soup on the dining table. “Perfect timing, I was just about to call you for dinner.”
Clarissa didn’t know what to say for a moment. She had thought when he said he’d call her for dinner, he meant someone would come to cook and then call her when it was ready. Who knew he would cook personally?
“If I had known, I would have helped you…”
How could she have the heart to sleep while her boss was cooking for her? How could she sleep?
While Clarissa was feeling regretful, Theodore called her softly, “Mrs. Ashford.”
It seemed he was reminding her that they were no longer in a boss–employee relationship, but husband and wife.
Clarissa said honestly: “I’m sorry, Mr. Ashford. But I feel more comfortable treating you as my boss…”
“That’s not your problem, it’s mine.”

“Hmm?”
“It’s because I haven’t been a good enough husband, which is why you feel uncomfortable.” Theodore arranged the tableware and stood by the dining table, smiling at her with a hint of helplessness.
Clarissa suddenly felt at a loss. That wasn’t what she meant.
Theodore ignored her unease: “Mrs. Ashford, give me some time, I’ll do better.”
Clarissa’s mind was a mess. How was this going in an increasingly wrong direction?
She sat down at the dining table with mixed feelings.
She had probably only slept for an hour or two, but during that time, he had prepared an exquisite three–dish meal with soup, perfect in appearance, aroma, and taste.
Clarissa took a bite and was quite amazed. She really hadn’t expected Theodore to cook, let alone cook so well.
Clarissa had mild anorexia. When it came to food, she didn’t seem to have any particular favorites, just thinking that as long as she could eat enough to fill her stomach and maintain bodily functions, it was fine.
But now she was eating quietly, with a sense of enjoying the food.
Even on weekends, Theodore was very busy.
During the meal, he received two consecutive phone calls, both about work.
“I need to fly to Boston today. I’ll probably be back in about three days. I haven’t told my family about our marriage registration yet, because I don’t want them to think I just found someone randomly to appease them.”
Clarissa thought to herself, aren’t you just finding someone randomly to appease them?
But thinking carefully, what he said made sense. Although he was trying to appease them, he

couldn’t let his family feel that he was just appeasing them.
Theodore planned calmly, “I’ve already told them I have someone I like and am dating. When I return from Boston, I’ll find an opportunity to take you to meet them. In two months, I’ll tell them our relationship is stable and we plan to get our marriage certificate.”
Clarissa felt something was off: “Then why didn’t you follow this process with me from the beginning?”
Theodore looked at Clarissa’s face and inwardly gave a bitter laugh.
Because he couldn’t wait any longer.
