Chapter 8

I was just after finishing my magical treatment when I received these exciting news.

I’d contacted the most powerful witch I knew. Thanks to her timely intervention, sensation was slowly returning to my

legs.

Talon, one of Maximilian’s Betas, filled me in on the Frosthowl Pack’s collapse. When I’d supported Maximilian through the Moonveil Pack, lending him my warrior team, Talon had been my liaison. Grateful ever since I’d ordered my warriors to rescue his sister from rogue wolves, he was furious about what Maximilian had done to me and shared the updates

immediately.

While recovering at the witch’s sanctuary, my legs grew stronger, nearly fully restored with only periodic spell

reinforcements needed.

After leaving, I returned to the Moonveil Pack’s wolf castle.

I powered on my old phone.

A flood of news alerts from Ironvale poured in.

I glanced at one.

It was all about the Frosthowl Pack’s scandals.

Reports claimed Maximilian Devereux was a psychopath, abusing his Luna for seven years and deliberately causing her

miscarriages.

The core werewolf warrior team had deserted, other packs had cut ties, and the Frosthowl Pack teetered on bankruptcy.

Another article caught my eye. Scarlett was suing Maximilian, accusing him of reneging on promised shares by claiming

they weren’t notarized.

No one passes up money.

When the going gets tough, Maximilian wouldn’t cling to sentiment.

As for Scarlett, she’d only ever been after his wealth. His move to reclaim the shares was a deathblow to her. No surprise

they’d turned on each other.

With online rumors of Maximilian’s abuse, some pegged Scarlett as the mistress.

The internet erupted, tearing into them both.

Then Maximilian posted a statement from his personal account, claiming his heart belonged only to his Luna, Juliette.

The declaration sent public outrage to a fever pitch.

Some dug up claims he’d deliberately killed his unborn pups-seven times-to use them for Scarlett’s experiments.

The story was so shocking, many dismissed it as rumor.

But then anonymous wolf healers came forward, corroborating the claims from multiple angles.

The internet boiled over.

Skeptics argued that if it were true, the police would’ve arrested them by now.

Just as the debate began to cool, Scarlett and Maximilian were summoned to court.

Speculation exploded. Some even guessed I’d been murdered and dumped, given my absence.

I smirked and closed the app.

Opening my messages, I found Maximilian bombarding me with texts from a borrowed account.

Skimming through, I saw nothing but groveling apologies and pleas for forgiveness..

He claimed he only realized my worth after losing me, swore he truly loved me, and admitted he’d mistaken a worthless

trinket for treasure, now seeing me as his true gem.

His hypocrisy turned my stomach.

Time and again, he’d chosen to wound and betray me. When I uncovered his lies and walked away, he showed no guilt, no

remorse, no shred of regret.

Only when backed into a corner did he dare speak of love. His so-called love demanded too steep a price-one I refused to

pay.

After his court summons, Maximilian paid a fortune to get bailed out.

He stood at the door of our old home, his figure heavy with defeat.

Only now did he realize how blessed he’d been.

A thriving career, a wife who loved him, and the promise of pups.

All blinded by his so-called love.

Before this, he’d thought he truly loved Scarlett. But after everything, he saw it for what it was: the thrill of being an

Omega’s center.

Sitting there, Juliette’s gentle smile haunted him.

She’d always been so full of laughter, but when had she stopped?

Perhaps it was the pain he’d caused her. Perhaps, without knowing it, he’d come to love her.

Longing crashed over him like a tide. He ached for Juliette.

He grabbed his phone, desperate to tell her he knew he’d been wrong, that he missed her, loved her.

But Scarlett’s call came first.

She groveled, pinning all the blame on me. “Maximilian, I know I’ve messed up, but don’t divorce me. Juliette’s suing me,

and this whole mess is humiliating us both. Can you get her to drop the lawsuit?”

“Whether she drops it is up to Juliette,” he said. “I’d rather salvage things.”

“Up to her? She’s crazy about you! Sweet-talk her a bit, and she’ll back off.”

For the first time, Maximilian found Scarlett’s naivety utterly ridiculous.

He chuckled. “You made your choices. Face the consequences. If you want her forgiveness, beg her yourself.”

Scarlett’s voice turned frantic. “You did those things, not me! I’m not ruining my life over this. Maximilian, don’t forget I

have Buddy. If you don’t make Juliette drop the suit, I’ll kill him, and we’ll all go down together!”

“Go ahead,” he said coldly. “I’ve already lost so many pups. One more won’t matter.”

He hung up.

Sitting at the villa’s doorstep, he gazed at the sky. Sunlight bathed his face, but his world was shrouded in darkness.
