Clarissa stood up straight, suddenly feeling a strange dizziness.
Could it be, could it be, she had just agreed to marry her boss?!
Her hands tightened slightly into fists, her palms breaking out in sweat.
Without waiting for Theodore’s response, she couldn’t help but murmur to herself.
“This is so unexpected…”
Unexpected? Theodore smiled silently.
Thinking to himself, I suppose so. A meticulously planned unexpected event.
Clarissa seemed to relax as if she had completed a task, then stood quietly, waiting to see if her boss had any further instructions.
Theodore stood in front of the floor–to–ceiling windows that covered an entire wall and laughed
huskily, “Don’t look at me.”
“Hmm?”
“It’s snowing.”
He changed the subject so quickly that it took Clarissa a moment to react and look outside.
“Don’t you think tonight is beautiful?”
Beautiful?
Clarissa thought about tonight–her heart was actually breaking. But she didn’t dare contradict her boss, so she nodded glumly.
The snowy night looked bright and quiet.

Chapter 8
This was Los Angeles‘ first snow of the winter.
First snow…
Clarissa suddenly remembered watching a popular movie in college.
She recalled one scene. In the movie, the male and female leads watched the first snow together, and
the male lead told the female lead with tender affection: “If you watch the first snow with someone
you love, you can stay happily together forever.”
It was after watching that movie that she began to feel that the first snow had a special meaning.
But that was just the sentimental nonsense of her youth.
After watching disinterestedly for a while, Clarissa said quietly beside Theodore: “Mr. Ashford, I
need to work overtime tonight to handle some matters. May I leave now?”
Theodore gave a slight “mm” in response.
Clarissa remembered the pricing and partnership proposal due to the project manager in the morning and immediately turned to leave.
The man’s lips curled into a helpless smile.
He took out his phone, opened WhatsApp, and clicked on the only pinned chat.
He and Clarissa had no communication outside of work matters.
Their last chat was from two days ago when she sent him some document materials.
They had actually exchanged contact information many years ago. When Clarissa was still in
college, they had added each other on WhatsApp and Instagram.
Clarissa wasn’t someone who openly shared her emotions; she barely posted a few updates on
Instagram throughout the year.
Theodore held his phone and took a photo of the snowy scene outside the window.
Then, he posted the photo to his social media with just a simple caption.

Chapter 8
[First snow.]
Clarissa finished her overtime work at one in the morning.
Just as she closed her laptop, she received a call from her boss.
“Mr. Ashford?”
“My car is in the underground parking garage. I’ll drive you home.”
“No need to trouble yourself! It’s already very late, I can go back on my own.”
Clarissa thought, for a contractual marriage, there was no need to keep up appearances in the middle of the night, right?
“Mrs. Ashford, isn’t this what I should do?”
The man’s deep, textured voice came through, and Clarissa felt as if a subtle electric current passed by her ear, disturbing her composure.
