“He’s very wealthy,” Clarissa said flatly.
She knew that was exactly what her aunt wanted to hear.
Sure enough, her aunt’s voice brightened with excitement. “So is he attending your college reunion
tonight? Bring him over tomorrow–Saturday. He needs to get my approval first.”
Clarissa thought bringing someone home to meet family after just one month of dating seemed a bit
rushed.
But then again, how could anything be “rushed” when love had been hidden away for eight long
years, finally seeing the light of day?
She relented, “I’ll ask him about it later.”
Her aunt reluctantly ended the call, somewhat satisfied.
After getting out of the car, Clarissa jogged toward the private room.
The party was in full swing when she arrived. The moment Clarissa pushed open the door, all eyes turned toward her, followed by playful teasing.
“Wow, our lady of the hour has arrived!”
“Clarissa looks gorgeous!”
“Well, obviously. Would she be standing next to our Young Master Lawson if she wasn’t beautiful?”
”
”
The girl who once preferred hiding quietly in corners during her student days now commanded attention simply because she was “Brady Lawson’s girlfriend.”
Clarissa was clearly still uncomfortable with the spotlight. Her hands, hanging at her sides, unconsciously clenched tight.

When her eyes met Brady’s, she instinctively looked away.
The man wore casual attire–a loose light gray sweater that couldn’t hide his broad shoulders and
narrow waist.
Brady sat on the sofa with a slight slouch, his aloof and casual demeanor impossible to ignore.
He looked at the nervous woman, put out his cigarette, and with a slight curl of his lips, patted his right thigh. “Come here. Sit.”
Clarissa’s heart inexplicably tightened as she moved forward with stiff steps.
Her natural reserve made it impossible for her to sit on his lap in public, but she did settle down right beside him.
Brady picked up a piece of fruit and fed it to her mouth, his voice like a spring breeze brushing past her ear. “Work’s been exhausting you. Why not quit? I’ll take care of you from now on.”
Those around them looked on with envy.
That was just how Brady was. A single word, gesture, or even a glance from him could make countless people fall at his feet.
Yet Clarissa was slow to warm up. She responded to his flirtations with proper restraint, almost to the point of seeming dull.
“That’s not necessary. I… I like my job,” Clarissa stammered, her cheeks flushing.
She thought about how many people would kill for a position at a top–tier corporation like Aurexon Group.
Brady smiled. “Then what can I do as your boyfriend? Surely I’m not just for show?”
Their relationship was far from intimate. After a month of dating, they hadn’t even shared a kiss, let alone any further physical contact.
Brady had never experienced such a pure relationship before.
Clarissa felt somewhat at a loss, but just then, Brady stood up.

He patted her head. “Wait for me. I need to take a call outside.”
Clarissa nodded obediently.
But as soon as Brady left the room, a sarcastic female voice sounded in her ear.
“Clarissa, you don’t actually think Brady is interested in you, do you? He’s just temporarily addicted, wanting to try something different. In a few days, he’ll dump you! Don’t cry when it happens!”
The speaker was Evelyn, Clarissa’s college roommate.
She’d had too much to drink tonight–the smell of alcohol was strong on her, and her face was flushed red.
Clarissa looked up calmly, quietly observing the woman who suddenly stood before her.
She and Evelyn had experienced several unpleasant incidents during school, and they’d completely lost touch after graduation.
Everyone among their classmates knew Evelyn had feelings for Brady. During college, numerous
rumors had circulated about the two of them.
Remembering Brady’s tender affection toward Clarissa earlier, Evelyn was driven mad with jealousy.
In the heat of the moment, she took out her phone and opened a recording.
“Let me show you exactly how worthless you are to Brady!”
Before the noisy chatter in the room could die down, the recording began playing.
First came the voice of one of Brady’s close friends, one of Los Angeles‘ notorious playboys.
“Brady, what happened to your last girlfriend? You broke up so quickly?”
Clarissa’s heart sank. Before she could react, Brady’s impatient voice came through Evelyn’s phone.
“Got bored. Ended it.”

Chapter 2
“When you’re bored, just try something new. How about a good girl? You haven’t played with that type before, have you?”
Brady: “Not interested.”
“Oh come on, are you afraid you can’t handle the too–innocent ones?”
“Bullshit. Is there any woman Brady can’t conquer? Let’s make a bet. You pick a ‘conquest‘ target, and if Brady can’t seal the deal in three days, I’ll take you to the best club to pick up girls, all
expenses on me. How about this?”
