The closed doors and windows blocked out all the light, it was pitch black in front of me, couldn’t see a thing even if I reached
out.
The phone was casually tossed aside, the loud ringtone shattered the silence, but he couldn’t be bothered to answer any calls, not even bothering to glance at it.
He was like picking a fight with the person across from him, but he didn’t respond, so the other person kept on calling.
After a long standoff, Howard finally gave in. He frowned, took the phone, saw the three words “Veronica” on the screen, and felt a wave of annoyance for no reason. Without any hesitation, he just hung up and then added this number to the blacklist.
The room finally returned to calm, he breathed a sigh of relief, but not long after, a strange number called in again.
Howard didn’t even have to guess, he knew it was Veronica for sure.
Then without hesitation, I hung up and blocked them, all in one go.
He lay on the soft big bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Gretchen’s smile kept coming back to his mind, a part of his heart he never realized she had taken.
But he couldn’t keep this state for long, because Veronica came over.
Howard, what do you mean?!
She pushed the door open without any hesitation, her eyes full of anger and resentment.
She “voluntarily married into the Wiggins family,” the marriage between the Wiggins and Crawley families was “beneficial and harmless” for her, he was handsome, their family backgrounds were quite similar, and he was a gentleman when they firs
met.
If you want to say what’s not satisfying, it’s that he talked about a girlfriend when he lost his memory, and he kept her by his side. But luckily Brianna said she would send that woman named Gretchen away, and since he was more focused on himself when they were together, she didn’t really care too much about it.
Until yesterday when he came back, he suddenly went off the grid. No messages, no calls. After a few inquiries, I found out tha it was because Gretchen had quietly left on her own.
Veronica thought he wouldn’t care about it, after all, she couldn’t see any signs of him caring about Gretchen in the past. But h actually took it to heart and ended up sulking in his room because of it.
Howard just glanced up slightly, then when he saw it was Veronica, he lay back down, looking lifeless.
“It’s just some insignificant woman, Howard, do you remember that I am your fiancée?” Veronica was hurt by his attitude, she was about to go up and pull him up, but at the moment when his slightly cold hand grabbed her wrist, a strong sense of discomfort filled his body.
Almost instinctively, he just pushed hard!
“Ah!”
I didn’t expect Howard to suddenly attack. Without any warning, Veronica stumbled and fell heavily to the ground. The pain shot through her bones, and tears welled up in her eyes in an instant.
“Howard, did you push me?” She asked, with a hint of disbelief in her voice, her eyes turning red at the corners, giving her a slightly pitiful look.

He was stunned for a moment, as if he had just realized, wanted to explain but didn’t know how to, and finally just fell silent.
Howard didn’t know what was wrong with him.
He didn’t just find out about the marriage, in fact, at first, he even agreed to it.
He was the only heir of the Wiggins Group, the most talented and prominent one in the circle. He was always the kid from the other family, attracting envy from others.
They envied his intelligence, his family background, his looks.
He was outstanding in every way. How could the future wife be an orphan without parents or family background?
Howard has told himself more than once, “Gretchen is not good enough for him.”
But he never thought Gretchen would leave.
He thought that even if he ended up marrying Veronica, he would take good care of her and never let her go back to that kind o
life where even food and shelter were problems.
But she left, left without a sound, left without hesitation, didn’t even leave him a chance to hold on.
He only realized later that Gretchen had already become an inseparable part of his life during those years of dependence.
Looking at Veronica still sitting on the ground without getting up, Howard had to admit one thing, he regretted it.
