Bill had initially applied to schools here in Northgate, but his scores weren’t high enough.

On Christmas Day, I was walking towards the campus gate when I realized I’d left my phone in my dorm. After retrieving it, I saw Bill waiting by the entrance.

Chapter 2

His eyes lit up when he saw me. “Tessa, I finally found you.”

I frowned and tried to walk past him.

He was wearing the down jacket and scarf I had given him years ago. He asked, his voice full of a desperate hope, “Tessa, it’s Christmas. Let’s go get dinner together.”

“Asking another guy’s girlfriend to dinner? Shouldn’t you ask her boyfriend first?” Leo’s annoyed voice came

from nearby as he stepped between us.

Bill’s hands clenched into fists, his face draining of color. “Tessa, is what he’s saying true?”

“It’s true. I have a boyfriend. Please stop looking for me.”

He shook his head, a crazed look in his eyes. He stared at me, his eyes turning red. “How… how can you have

a boyfriend? You promised you would marry me when we were kids.”

“I’m the one who lost you, Tessa.”

Leo stepped forward and grabbed him by the collar. “Yeah, you did. Thanks for being so blind. Now get lost.”

Bill seemed to lose all his strength, slumping to the ground as Leo shoved him away. Then, Leo took my

hand and led me right past him.

“Tessa, I’m sorry.”
