Erin’s POV
I hurried from the kitchen to the living room, unable to contain my smile when I saw Derek stapping inside to lacked tired but wi impossibly handsome as he loosened his tie, his expression softening when our eyes mer.
My cheeks grew warm as I realized how much I resembled a newlywed wife waiting for her husband to return home. The draught made my heart flutter. This was what our future bonded life could be me preparing meals while waiting for him, becoming his perfect partner, supporting his work and ambitions.
“Mate, Derek called softly, his deep voice sending shivers down my spine.
I ran toward him without hesitation, wrapping my arms around his waist as he enveloped me in a tight embrace. I breathed in his familiar scent–expensive cologne mixed with his natural Alpha musk–and felt instantly at home.
“Mate, I thought you’d be back earlier, I murmured against his chest.
“There was a meeting I had to handle,” he replied, his fingers threading through my hair.
The maids bustled around us, having grown accustomed to me calling Derek my soul mate. They kept their heads lowered, focusing intently on their tasks. Derek’s attention shifted to them, his gaze darkening slightly. The young women immediately averted their eyes, their movements becoming more hurried as they sensed his scrutiny.
I noticed how they scurried away like frightened mice. They feared Derek’s somber stare–the same look that had intimidated me when we first met. Now, it was almost amusing to see others react the way I once had.
“How was your exam?” Derek asked, loosening his tie further as he walked toward the sofa.
I slipped my arm through his, settling beside him. “Good,” I answered, resting my head on his shoulder. Derek shifted, wrapping his arm around my back and pulling me closer until I was leaning against his chest. The steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my ear was comforting. familiar. I’d missed this–the simple intimacy we shared when alone.
I missed this feeling, I thought, closing my eyes to savor the moment.
A young maid approached us respectfully, stopping a few feet away when she noticed our intimate position.
“Alpha, may I take your coat?” she asked, her voice deliberately soft and sweet.
My gaze shifted to the maid, my brows furrowing as I recognized the girl who had rolled her eyes at me earlier. She had modified her uniform despite Martha’s instructions–the neckline plunged too low, and the skirt barely reached mid–thigh.
Derek glanced at me, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Indeed, the coat is rather dirty.”
The maid stepped forward and bent down, her altered uniform revealing far more than appropriate. My hands clenched into fists, my wolf bristling with territorial anger.
Pulling away from Derek’s chest, I turned to face him, unable to hide my fury. Derek looked genuinely surprised by my sudden change in demeanor.
“I see your coat does have quite a bit of dust on it,” I said sarcastically. “You should give it to her. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going.” I made to stand up.
Derek caught my wrist before I could leave, pulling me firmly back onto the sofa beside him.
“Do you dislike her?‘ he asked the maid, nodding toward me.

I avoided his penetrating stare, remaining silent, but my reaction told him everything he needed to know.
“You’re fired, Derek stated flatly to the maid.
My eyes widened in surprise. The maid dropped to her knees, panic evident on her face.
“Alpha, what did I do wrong? Why am I being fired?” she pleaded, tears forming in her eyes.
1 felt overwhelmed by Derek’s drastic action. He was firing someone simply because I didn’t like them? The power he wielded so casually was both frightening and exhilarating.
Looking at the kneeling, sobbing maid, I almost felt a twinge of sympathy–until my gaze caught on the inappropriately short skirt again. This woman had deliberately disobeyed Martha’s instructions about the uniform, clearly trying to attract Derek’s attention. My sympathy evaporated. The maid was attempting to seduce my mate, and that was unforgivable.
“Martha, Derek called out, his voice carrying through the house without effort.
The older housekeeper appeared promptly, her expression neutral as she took in the scene before her.
“Get her out of my house,” Derek ordered.
Martha looked shocked but bowed respectfully. “But, Alpha, your mother selected her as one of your maids.”
Derek’s expression hardened. “Whose word carries more weight? Mine or my mother’s?”
Martha glanced at me, then back to Derek before nodding in understanding. She helped the young maid to her feet and led her toward the servants‘ quarters, promising that she would be gone within the hour.
Once we were alone, Derek turned to me. “Are you satisfied now?”
“I didn’t tell you to fire her,” I protested weakly.
Derek tilted my chin up with his finger, forcing me to meet his gaze. He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to my cheek that made my heart skip a
beat.
“Erin, you were jealous,” he whispered, his lips brushing against my ear as he tilted his head. “You know I didn’t even notice that maid. She doesn’t have the power to attract my attention.”
I closed my eyes as his lips traveled from my cheek to my mouth. The kiss was gentle but possessive, marking me as his.
When we finally separated, I placed my hands against his chest and pushed him back slightly. “Now go change and clean up… hungry.”
A mischievous smile played at the corner of Derek’s mouth. “My little glutton is hungry?”
I turned my face away, embarrassed by his teasing. “Mate, I’m starving. I want dinner now. Go change.”
Derek sighed dramatically as he stood. As you wish, baby.” He headed toward the stairs, making his way to the bedroom.
I watched him until he disappeared from view, a smile playing on my lips. I felt incredibly lucky to have Derek in my life. Despite his intimidating presence and position as Pack Alpha, he treated me with tenderness and respect. He was the perfect mate–strong, protective, and surprisingly considerate when we were alone.

When Derek returned wearing comfortable loungewear, my heart fluttered. Even in casual clothes, he looked devastatingly handsome.
“Why are you so happy today?” he asked, noticing my smile. “Is it because your last exam is over?
