his eyes raised slightly,making them curved, so that one could not take their eyes off him.
I shut my eyes and reminded myself not to overthink it.
I just stayed for a while. He helped me,perhaps out of favor or other complicated reasons. Either way,he only helped me a bit.
However,his words,”I get jealous,” affected my heart.I could not take it out.
Nathan had never thought Laurie would leave him just like that,without a single word or even a single glance at him.
He just stood there,watching me walk into the rain. Even though the pouring rain was so loud,my back was so light,as if I had left unrepentantly.
He instinctively ran after her, acting before he could even think. He felt as if something had broken in his heart.“Laurie!Laurissa!” he called out my name,almost shouted, but I did not even turn around.
Nathan charged toward the door. Just as he stepped outside, a baby’s piercing cry pinned him to the ground.
The child in his arms was crying his heart out and seemed to be shocked by the sudden chaos as well.
“President…“Alicia’s soft and weak voice sounded behind him.It was laced with restrainec sadness.“How about you go after her first…I’ll care for the baby.”
Nathan turned around and looked at Alicia’s pale face. In her arms,the child was wailing and gasping for breath. Her hands shook a bit,clearly,she was barely able to hold him.
Still,she was able to force a smile.“She must be devastated right now.Quick!Chase after her. Don’t let her stand in the rain alone.”
All Nathan felt was a surge of heat from his chest that almost made him mad.
How could Laurie just walk away like that?
Didn’t she have the softest heart?Doesn’t she the one who can’t let go of the past? Did she…love him?
His throat tightened as if he were being strangled. He clenched his fists and his vision blurred. “She had no right to leave like that,“Nathan muttered. His voice was hoarse and shaking with frustration.“Why should I be the one to blame?I didn’t want this either.”
Alicia froze,unsure how to respond.
Nathan’s hands trembled as he pulled the baby into his arms. The child cried even louder, but he shut his eyes,forcing himself to stay calm.
Between me and the child,he chose the child because he believed I would not be that cruel.
It took a long time before the baby finally stopped crying.Alicia put the baby into the crib and

softly said, “The baby’s been really unsettled today… Does it feel…something different at home?”
Nathan did not say anything. He just sat on the couch like a statue for ten whole minutes before finally standing,putting on a jacket and walking out without a word.
It was still pouring and night had fallen. My things were still scattered between the yard and the garage.My broken suitcase lay open and the books were soaked and scattered all over the place
Nathan knelt down and began picking them up one by one.
Each item was something I had personally picked and they were the only traces of me that were left behind in this house.
The more he picked up,the more his eyes stung. Nathan stopped when he saw the cloth bag.
It was something that my mother had left me.I had once slept with the bag a whole night and kept murmuring“Mom“in my sleep.
He took it and gently wiped the mud from the fabric one bit at a time with utmost care,like he was afraid it might fall apart.
The rain drenched his clothes, but he did not feel anything. As he knelt in the rain,motionless while holding the bag that piece of broken jade pendant in a daze.
When he got home,the first thing he did was call his assistant and tell him to contact a jade restoration master,regardless of the cost.
“Fix it as much as you can,“Nathan said,his voice hoarse.“If she comes back….she can see it like this.”
After he said that,his voice suddenly caught in his throat.
Will I ever come back?
That question hit him like a tidal wave that drowned every bit of his sanity.
