I froze, his words slamming into me like a violent gust of wind.
My stomach churned, a slow burn igniting deep in my chest. How dare he? Jerking my hand away as if his touch had burned me, I spat,
“You and I are strangers, Felix. There will never be a ‘we‘–not now, not ever!” His smirk remained, unfazed, and that only fueled my rage.
“Bastard! Arrogant, self–absorbed jerk!“.
I seethed under my breath as I stormed out of the hospital, my fingers clenched into tight fists. What does he think of himself?
Huffing in anger, I bought some medicines and gave them to the nurse. She noticed my worsening mood.
“Miss Drielle, are you feeling well?” The nurse’s voice was gentle, but I barely registered it. Was I well? I hadn’t slept properly in days.
The sterile hospital air clung to my skin, the faint scent of antiseptic burned my nostrils.
My limbs felt like lead, my mind clouded with exhaustion.
“Miss, I understand you don’t want to leave Jane’s side,” she continued, her tone tinged with concern.
“But you must take care of yourself, too. Sleep deprivation and stress-”
“I don’t have time for that,” I cut her off, my voice, a hollow whisper.
She gave me a lecture on the importance of a proper sleeping and eating schedule, but I turned deaf ears to her
words.
My little girl, the apple of my eyes, was ill, and I didn’t have leisure time to waste on myself. I would only relax when Jane went back to her school and resumed her normal life, easing my worry.
Thinking about a positive future, I strolled towards her room.
A conversation full of excitement resounded in my ears, although I was a few steps away from my destination.
“Everyone is missing you at school, Jane.
The teacher says that we will pray for your health in assembly.”
“Zoe?”
Jane’s best friend and new sibling’s voice announced his arrival, he finally came here to visit her.

Bright sent him back to the Reed Mansion as we were staying at hospital, the germs, and smell of the medicines wasn’t good for a healthy kid..
I went to see those friends and saw Felix coming out of the room, he raised his brows wickedly.
“I thought Zoe and Jane’s close bond can help you to see the reality, Drielle.”
He pointed at laughing kids and said, “You, me, and our kids is the actual family, Drielle. A rented father can’t fill the void of emptiness in a child’s heart.”
“You!”
His mean remarks about Bright skyrocketed my fury, but I swallowed my pride for my kids‘ sake, simply ignoring
him with a cold face.
“Thank you for bringing Zoe here, Felix!”
I spoke loudly, eyeing him to get lost, Felix smirked coldly before turning to leave.
Zoe was delighted to see me; he stretched his arms for a hug.
“How are you, mommy?”
As I pulled him closer, he encircled his arms around my neck, not ready to move away.
“I was so bored at my dad’s mansion, mommy. I have no one to play with at school.”
Zoe’s pent–up frustration rushed out of his lips; he poured his heart out in a single breath. He also told me about Felix’s changed behavior.
“My dad calls me daily now, mommy. He has apologized for ignoring me earlier and promised that he will work hard to earn more money for me.”
“My daddy is also working hard!”
Jane’s competitive nature didn’t let her digest Felix’s praise, so she immediately bragged about Bright.
“My daddy goes to his office, handles mommy’s work, and then plays with me. He is the best dad in the world.”
Seeing Jane back to her true self brought a pleasant smile to my face, it was a sign that her recovery was on the right
track.
She outclassed Zoe with her daddy’s qualities.
Eventually, he accepted his defeat and opened the zip of his bag.
“Look, Jane!
We have made the ‘Get well soon‘ cards for you.”
The colorful drawings of the kids warmed my heart, especially Zoe’s card was exceptional. He drew Jane presenting her aerospace science project.
We will practice together again, Jane. Get well soon!”
This small activity rejuvenated my soul, it was indeed a truth that kids were angels, illuminating the world with their unique light.
Feeling refreshed, I welcomed Bright, he snuck out of his office in the lunch break.
“What a pleasant surprise, Zoe? How are you doing?”
The reunion of Zoe with his favorite uncle filled the room with happy chatters, Jane and Zoe competed to get Bright’s
attention.
I was pouring juice for him when Felix came to take Zoe back, he glanced at Bright and chuckled.
“Aren’t you like a joker at a party, entertaining guests‘ kids, Bright?
I bet you must have a great experience in this field.”
The room went silent. Bright’s easygoing smile vanished, his eyes narrowing into something dangerously
unreadable.
He took a slow step forward.
“Say that again, Felix.”
Felix’s smirk faltered for the briefest second.
