Chapter 5
I was absolutely floored.
My family just said they’d set me up with “a really great guy.”
But I never imagined it would be someone like Harlan Cross.
Now here I was, sitting across from Harlan in this private dining room he’d arranged.
I kept smiling on the surface while frantically texting my mom under the table.
[The blind date you set up is with HARLAN CROSS?]
[Since when is our family wealthy enough to marry into his league?]
【Did you guys secretly win the jackpot or something?]
Mom replied instantly with a question mark.
[?]
【What the hell are you talking about, sweetie? Are you day–dreaming?]
【We set you up with one of Harlan Cross’s nephews.]
[Didn’t your aunt explain this properly?】
I glanced up at the gentleman sitting across from me, smiling.
Was it even possible for there to be another face this perfect like this in the world?
Our eyes met.
I couldn’t keep pretending to be busy with my phone.
I stumbled over my words.
“Um…”
“You’re… you’re Mr. Harlan Cross, right?”
He nodded, then gave me an apologetic smile.
“Yes.”

Chapter 5
“My fault–I should have introduced myself properly.”
“Hello, Miss Storm. I’m Harlan Cross, your blind date for today. It’s an honor to meet you.”
Short and sweet introduction.
Except it was completely different from what my mom had told me.
I was totally confused.
“But the person they set me up with… wasn’t supposed to be…”
Harlan raised an eyebrow.
He picked up his tea cup and took a sip.
“That guy wasn’t a good match for you.”
“So I came instead.”
He looked at me.
“Is there a problem?”
“Would you prefer him, Miss Storm?”
I was stunned.
The way he said that…
Like we’d known each other forever.
My heart was pounding.
But Harlan looked completely calm, those deep, intense eyes staring at me without blinking, clearly waiting for an
answer.
I forced myself to respond.
“Of course not… I don’t even know him.”
He smiled softly,
“So you don’t mind that I’m here instead?”
I swallowed hard.
“No…”

I mean, of course I didn’t mind.
If anything, wasn’t he the one getting the raw deal here?
Harlan seemed genuinely pleased with my answer.
He pulled out this thick folders from somewhere, stood up, leaned over, and placed it in front of me.
“Perfect.”
“This is my personal portfolio. It covers my basic information, hobbies, career, salary, and all my assets. Please take a look, Miss Storm.”
“Actually I’m here with a marriage in mind.”
“I don’t have women in my social circle, so I can guarantee absolute loyalty in marriage. After we marry, I’ll follow through on every promise I make now, including transferring all my assets to you.“,
“I won’t put any pressure on my wife. As long as we don’t divorce, she’ll have complete freedom.”
“If you find my terms… acceptable, I hope my proposal…”
He paused mid–sentence.
Those beautiful eyes started working their magic on me again.
“…might be worth considering.”
Harlan’s voice was already smooth as silk, and that ridiculously handsome face was staring at me without blinking.
I was honestly getting a little dizzy.
Was this some kind of fantasy I was having after Garrick pissed me off?
Under the table, I pinched my thigh hard.
Shit. That hurt.
Not a dream.
Maybe my expression was getting more and more vacant, because Harlan’s eyes started twinkling with amusement, and I realized I was being an idiot again.
I quickly grabbed my water glass and took a strategic sip.
Then tried to sound casual.
“Mr. Cross.”

“Are you saying… you want to marry with me?”
He looked at me.
And nodded very seriously.
“Yes.”
“Miss Storm, I would be honored to become your husband.”
