Chapter 17
The research project Lila was participating in was a military project, so special forces soldiers guarded every part of the facility with guns. Although Callan could do as he pleased outside, within a military facility, he had to follow the rules–he couldn’t act recklessly.
Otherwise, the facility was located in international waters in the Atlantic, and killing in international waters wasn’t technically illegal.
Anyone causing trouble in a military facility could be shot, and their body wouldn’t even need disposal–just
thrown into the sea to feed the sharks.
After Lila pressed the alarm, special forces immediately rushed in with guns drawn: “Dr. Carson, what’s happening?”
“I suspect a foreign spy has infiltrated the facility,” Lila said coldly. She glanced at Callan, then continued mercilessly: “This man is not a consultant. I don’t know his real identity, but I’m certain he knows nothing about advanced pharmaceutical research. I suspect he’s a spy sent by hostile forces. You should detain him for questioning.”
Callan’s identity as a technology consultant was indeed fake–only high–ranking military officials knew his real identity. The special forces guarding the facility had no idea who he was.
So Lila’s words immediately put the soldiers on high alert. They raised their guns, aiming at Callan: “Hands up!
Don’t move!”
Callan never expected Lila would go so far as to accuse him of being a foreign spy just to get rid of him!
And he had indeed concealed his true identity. Once taken away by the special forces, his real identity would
certainly be exposed.
The Thorne family had military connections, so the military might not harm him, but afterward, he’d find it nearly impossible to sneak back into the facility with a false identity.
Lila, as a brilliant scientist, knew that if she told the soldiers Callan was her ex–husband currently harassing her, they might consider it a personal matter and be reluctant to intervene.
They might also realize that if Callan could infiltrate a military facility under a false identity, he must have powerful backing–making it not worth the risk to get involved for just one female scientist.
Neither emotionally nor rationally would the soldiers want to step into this messy situation.
But now, with Lila claiming she suspected Callan was an enemy spy, the soldiers had to take it seriously. Whether Callan was truly a spy or not, they had to detain him for questioning.
Once the situation escalated, Callan’s identity deception would be exposed, and the military would have no choice

but to expel him.
After being expelled, Callan would find it nearly impossible to return.
“Lila, do you hate me that much?” Callan looked at Lila with profound sadness. “To avoid seeing me, you’d accuse me of being a foreign spy?”
Lila averted her gaze, no longer wanting to look at Callan: “I don’t know you. Please don’t act like we’re familiar.”
Her cold attitude once again deeply wounded Callan.
He laughed bitterly: “Lila, you’re really being cruel. But no matter how cruel you are, I will always love you.”
“I won’t let you leave me. Even if you hate me, I’ll keep you by my side!”
As he spoke, Callan unbuttoned his coat, revealing his body covered with explosives!
