I was thinking it, so I asked it.
Damian rested his chin on my shoulder, the gesture an exact echo of our son’s. He leaned in close to my ear.
“Because everyone has something they care about.”
“What I care about–Leo is upstairs, and you are right here beside me.” He said, “And Logan… he wants to be the hero. He wants to be adored by millions, to have all the wealth and status in the world.”

“But I can destroy everything he cares about with a snap of my fingers.” Damian’s voice took on a dangerous edge. “The System is a wreck after its two–year battle with me. It has no more power to interfere. Logan stil thinks he has a cheat code on his side.”
‘He has nothing to bargain with. Not against me.”
Damian’s tone was always so light, but I couldn’t stop thinking about what he must have gone through. He discovered the nature of our reality. He fought the System alone. He raised our son. And he found me.
Now that I think about it, Damian’s over–the–top protection of Leo, his need to have him in his sight at all tim es… it was probably because the System had already taken me. He was terrified it would come back for the only thing he had left.
