His face turned ghostly pale. “I’m sorry,” he choked out, “I know I was wrong.”
“Wrong?”
I tilted my head, blinking away the heat stinging my eyes, “Alaric, if you didn’t love me, you could’ve rejected the marriage. You could’ve said no. But you wanted the good reputation, you chose this marriage, then refused to treat me like a wife. You’re a coward!”
“We can start over.” he pleaded, reaching out with trembling hands.
“If you want children, we can have as many as you want.”
“And what about Ruby’s child?” I raised a mocking brow.
“That wasn’t mine!” he cried, eyes squeezing shut in pain.
“She lied to me.”
My smile grew sharper.
“Oh? So now that you’ve found out she cheated on you, now you want to come crawling back to me? What am I to you, Alaric, someone you can call and dismiss at will?”
He shook his head violently, eyes filled with remorse.
“No… Eleanor, your kindness, your gentleness, they’re etched into my heart. I was blind before. I hurt you. Let me make it up to you. Please, let’s go home.”
I looked at him calmly. There was no emotion left in my gaze.
“Alaric,” I said softly, “there’s no point saying these things now.”
Just then, Bernard emerged from the exam room, slipping his arm naturally around my waist.
“The doctor said we need to be especially careful these first three months.”
Alaric’s eyes darted between us and then his voice exploded with fury.
“You bastard! What the hell did you do to my wife?!”
“Enough!” I snapped.
“The divorce papers were sent to Middleton Corporation weeks ago. There’s nothing between us anymore!”
His body trembled.
T
“No!” he rasped, “I haven’t signed! You can’t just leave! I won’t allow it!”
Before he could take another step, Bernard’s bodyguards blocked his way. Bernard took my hand and walked away without looking back.
In the car, he was unusually quiet.
“What are you thinking about?” I asked softly.
He reached over and gently ruffled my hair, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
“Just remembered… he’s only a side–branch member of the Middleton Family.”
Cheated By My Husband Desired By CEO
He paused. “Eleanor, if I teach him a lesson, would you feel bad for him?”
I didn’t hesitate.
“I’ve been humiliated enough these past few years. Whatever you decide, I’ll stand by you.” One month later, Bernard and I held our wedding.
He invited the entire city’s media. Just as the ceremony was about to begin, Leah burst through the door.
“Eleanor! You’re the daughter–in–law of the Middleton Family! What are you doing here?!” she shrieked.
I lifted my gaze calmly. “This lady,” I said, voice steady, “I have nothing to do with the Middleton Family anymore. Please have some self–respect.”
From the corner of my eye, I spotted Ruby standing among the guests. Of course. She was the one who leaked the wedding news to the Middleton Family.
Leah trembled with rage.
“You, you dare speak to me like this?!”
She clung to Alaric’s sleeve.
“Alaric! You’re just going to stand there and watch your wife marry someone else?!”
I couldn’t take it anymore.
Turning toward the cameras, I spoke slowly and clearly, “Everyone, I did have a marriage with Mr. Alaric Middleton. But we only registered in Las Vegas. We never obtained a domestic marriage certificate.”
“Our relationship has long since ended. The divorce papers were sent a long time ago.
So now, legally and emotionally, there is nothing between us.”
“As for Mr. Bernard and me, we are genuinely in love.”
Alaric’s face turned ashen.
He never imagined that his little “shortcut” to avoid local marriage procedures would become the sharpest knife turned against him.
The woman he once dismissed with indifference was now gloriously marrying someone else.
Leah tried to raise another ruckus, but the security guards politely escorted them out.
Amid a hall full of blessings, I exchanged rings with Bernard.
Later, I heard that the Middleton Family had suffered a devastating financial collapse utter bankruptcy.
As for Ruby, she was committed to a psychiatric hospital.
The day our child was born, I received a text from an unknown number:
“I’m sorry.”
I gently tapped delete.
