The pink blush of sunset hazed over the crisp autumn evening. Looking down from the window, I could see the city lights shimmering on the river that cut through downtown.

It was a beautiful moment.
Of course, that required ignoring the man sitting across from me, who was shamelessly ordering scones croissants, and a soufflé.
Dude, have you been starved for three days and just been released?
How on earth was my arch–nemesis on the list of potential husbands?!
“Are you just crashing this marriage meeting for a free meal?” I finally asked, as he took his third bite of
cream.
“Who said I’m crashing?”
I was speechless. “Wow. Don’t tell me it’s because you have a secret crush on me?”
Andrew’s gaze drifted over me, a faint smile playing on his lips. “We have to get married eventually. We’re childhood friends, a match made in heaven. Better than marrying a stranger, don’t you think?”
A match made in HELL is more like it.
In kindergarten, he secretly wiped his snot on my schoolbag.
In elementary school, he played “barber” and gave me a buzz cut.
In middle school, he tried to show off his basketball skills and ended up sending me to the hospital.
In high school, he secretly burned all the love letters I got from cute boys.
The list of his crimes was endless.
A folder was tossed onto the table in front of me, stopping my rage from boiling over.
Andrew raised an eyebrow, leaning back languidly in his chair. “Take a look.”
patiently lowered my eyes and began to scan the contents.
A medical report, his studio’s financial statements, a summary of his personal assets, a prenuptial agreeme
nt…
‘I suggest you pay close attention to the first document. The full STD panel. All negative,” Andrew said, taki ng a sip of water, his fingertips drumming lightly on his knee. “As for the rest, I’m guessing you’re only interes ted in how much money you get. That’s on the last page of the prenup.”

In the event of emotional breakdown leading to divorce, 70% of Party A’s assets will be transferred to Party

Oh, hell. This was genuinely tempting.
A person can’t let pride get in the way of money, right?
But something about this felt… like a trap.
I cleared my throat, feigning composure. “If you don’t mind me asking, what’s in it for you? There are so many people who are completely infatuated with you. Like that Chloe girl. If she could marry you, she’d be ecstatic
even without a dowry.”
“So why go through all this trouble for me?”
Andrew rested his forehead in his hand, gazing out the window. “For peace and quiet. We can do our own
thing. You can take my money and make it rain in every club in town.”
His voice dropped, and a wicked grin danced in his eyes. “As for that… Chloe–whatsher–name. I’m looking for a wife, not a charity case. The gap between her looks and mine is so vast, I’d feel like I was the one being
taken advantage of.”
Your narcissism is as consistent as ever, isn’t it? Twenty–five years and still going strong.
“So? What do you think?” Andrew slid a fountain pen across the table. “Sign now, and I promise you’ll have the money in your account by tonight.”
Oh, you didn’t have to say another word.
Sign! I had to sign! Right now!
