Chapter 4
I quickly hung up, afraid my parents would hear my unhappiness.
“You’re overthinking I have no interest in entering your family ancestral hall!”
He picked up the shredded divorce papers from the trash, sneering, “I heard everything, stop pretending! Playing hard to get won’t work with me!”
“I’ll tell you this – I was planning to take you to worship the ancestors tomorrow, but now that there’s no baby, I can only take Mary back instead!”
Hearing this, Mary’s face lit up with joy, then quickly turned to a practiced frown, “Pete is just teasing me again. How could an outsider like me enter the family ancestral hall…”
Pete tapped her nose gently, coaxing, “How could you be an outsider? Besides, I’m in charge of the family now!”
“Didn’t you say you wanted a feast? Since Angela refuses to cook, I’ll take you to the old house for my mother’s cooking!”
So it turned out the family rule about not entering the ancestral hall without a son was only meant for me.
Mary blushed at his coaxing, throwing me a triumphant smile.
The next moment, I received her message, “Angela, you’re really stupid. Now that you’ve lost the baby, what can you possibly use to compete with me? Pete can only be mine!”
Pete couldn’t even bear to look at me, directly leading Mary away.
“Wait!”
Pete stopped, wearing an expression that said ‘I knew it,‘ coldly glancing at me from the corner of his eye, “Now you know your mistake? Too late!”
I took out my already–removed ring and handed it to him.
Pete’s pupils trembled at the sight.
“Who gave you permission to take off the ring?”
He grabbed it, roughly trying to force it back onto my finger, but failed due to my stiff joints as the ring rolled to the floor.
“The heating is on full blast – why are your hands even colder than this morning?”
Pete sensed something was wrong and reached to touch my forehead, but I moved away.

Chapter 4
Watching me dodge his touch, an inexplicable melancholy filled his heart, almost bringing tears to his eyes.
Especially that ice–cold sensation – it felt like being plunged into a frozen cave,
Seeing Pete’s strange expression, Mary quickly picked up the ring and clung to him sweedy, “Pete, this ring is so special! I want one too! But I don’t like using something someone else has worn.”
Pete’s Adam’s apple bobbed involuntarily as he felt Mary’s soft chest press against him.
“Mary, you deserve better- this is just trash that someone didn’t want!”
He threw the ring at my face, “Angela, this is my final warning playing hard to get won’t work with met
Despite his words, watching me let the ring roll away without picking it up made him increasingly uneasy,
He had personally crafted these matching rings, and I had once sworn to wear mine even in death
Pete waited for a long while, only to see me turn and walk back to my room.
When had I ever given him the cold shoulder?
He picked up the ring with a dark expression, speaking through clenched teeth, “Angela, you’re ruthless! I’ll agree to let you enter my family ancestral hall, but you must kneel for three days and three nights as punishment for terminating the pregnancy!
Once you sincerely admit your mistake, I’ll return the ring!”
Before I could respond, Pete took Mary back to the family home.
Mary eagerly shared details of her treatment there.
Treatment I had never received.
Lavish dishes, thick red envelopes, even Pete’s mother’s heirloom bracelet on her wrist.
“See? I just need to stand here, and they’ll offer everything you could never get. How can you compete?”
“His mother said whenever I’m ready, she’ll arrange a grand wedding for us!
I ignored her, spending the night clearing out and disposing of everything related to me.
At dawn, I took a taxi to the airport.
Just as I boarded the plane, Pete called, “Angela, if you don’t come now, you’ll never enter our ancestral hall in this lifetime!”
